Youth Leadership Summer Camp Registration is Saturday
 
Registration for the popular Youth Leadership Summer Camp – hosted by School Resource Officers from the Las Cruces Police Department and sponsored by New Mexico State University’s Stan Fulton Endowed Chair, Dr. Blanca E. Araujo – will be held Saturday morning at Lynn Middle School.
 
The free camp will include six 1-week sessions set to begin in June.
 
A drive-thru registration for the camp begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 1, at Lynn Middle School. Parents or guardians must register students in-person. Parents or guardians are encouraged to arrive early to complete a registration form and select the session that best suits their summer schedule. Registration forms will be available the day of registration. No phone or electronic registrations will be accepted.
 
Each camp session is limited to 25 students and the sessions tend to fill quickly on registration day. Early arrival for registration is encouraged. LCPD School Resources Officers run the camp and will be on hand Saturday for registration day. Parents and guardians can register their youth, ages 11-15 or at least entering 6th Grade, for only one session.
 

  • Session 1: June 1-4.
  • Session 2: June 7-11.
  • Session 3: June 21-25.
  • Session 4: June 28-July 2.
  • Session 5: July 19-23.
  • Session 6: July 26-July 30.
 
The Youth Leadership Summer Camp will run from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day at Lynn Middle School. The camp will follow Covid-19 safety protocols. Participants will have their temperature checked daily. Handwashing and hand sanitizer will be available. Campers will also be provided with a face mask and sanitary gloves.
 
The camp provides youth with CPR and First Aid training, teamwork building, archery, crime scene investigation, D.A.R.E. and DWI simulations, anti-bullying and harassment lessons and other activities similar to the Character Counts module. Breakfast and lunch will be provided each day, and participants will receive a free camp T-shirt.
