SCAM ALERT

The Moraga Police Department is alerting you about 3 different scams that are being run on our residents:
1.  PG&E Scam - you receive a call telling you that you owe money to PG&E and your power will be turned off unless you go to Safeway and send money or buy some type of card, call them back and give them the numbers.  This is a scam.  If you are concerned that you may owe money to PG&E, look up their number and call them.  PG&E representatives are available to work with you and they DO NOT call,  demand money and threaten to turn off your power.

2.  Amazon Scam - you receive a call that a purchase has been made on your Amazon.com account.  It tells you that if you did not make the purchase, call "support" and an agent will help you.  They will then convince you to provide your account information or credit card information...then will be spending your money and making purchases.  This is a scam!  If you are concerned about an Amazon.com purchase, log into your account and look for yourself.

3.  Federal Reserve Scam - you receive a call telling you there is a problem with your bank account which is being investigated by the "Department of the Federal Reserve law enforcement branch" and a warrant is being issued for your arrest.  When you connect with the "agent," they will get you to provide personal and banking information that they will use ASAP to clean out your accounts.  This is a scam.  When they called the police chief, they were not happy when he told them to come and arrest him...and that he could be found at the police department!!

All of these crimes are being perpetrated by criminals who are preying on and taking advantage of trusting people.  Do not allow yourself to be victimized.  If you receive one of these calls, messages or e-mails, you should question it.  Call the Moraga Police if you need assistance in determining whether or not the communication is real.  If you have questions, hang up and contact the involved group using information that you obtain (i.e. PG&E's number from your bill or their website).  Lastly, if you receive a call from a number you do not recognize, let it go to voicemail.  If it is important, they will leave a message.

Please contact the Moraga Police with any questions or concerns at 925-888-7055 (business hours) or 925-284-5010 (24/7 non-emergency dispatch).  Thank you for helping us to keep Moraga a safe community.
