SUMMARY: On April 29, 2021, at 12:06 p.m., deputies with the Victorville Police Department were dispatched to Victor Valley High School for reports of shots fired. Deputies arrived at the campus at 12:10 p.m. and immediately began working with school officials to secure the campus and locate any victims and suspects.

Through investigation, it was discovered several males were engaged in a verbal argument in a parking lot of the school. The group left the parking lot through a back gate and the argument continued and became physical as they gathered on Fresno Street. During the fight, the suspect retrieved a handgun he had in his possession and fired three shots towards the others. An 18-year old male was struck in the foot by one of the rounds and the suspect fled the scene.

The victim, a student at Victor Valley High School, was treated at the scene by medical personnel and subsequently transported to a local hospital. He was later released and expected to fully recover. A 16-year old victim, also a student at the school, received minor injuries from the physical altercation and was treated at the scene.

While multiple deputies conducted a complete sweep of the school campus to ensure the safety of all students and staff, a large number of deputies including Victorville Police Department’s Gang Team began gathering information to determine the identity of the suspect and his whereabouts.

The 17-year old suspect, who does not attend the school, was quickly identified, and located at a nearby home in the 15700 block of Inyo Street. He was taken into custody without incident. The suspect was arrested and booked at San Bernardino County Juvenile Detention Center for attempted murder, threatening crime with intent to terrorize, minor in possession of a concealed weapon, and discharging a firearm in a school zone.
