El Cerrito Crime Blotter: April 26th - May 3rd, 2021

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

April 26th

Grand Theft- 2200 block of Humboldt Avenue-
An unknown suspect stole a catalytic converter from a Prius sometime during the night of the 24th.

Grand Theft- 2000 block Tapscott Avenue-
An unknown suspect stole a catalytic converter from a Toyota Corolla sometime during the last several months.

Vandalism- 200 block of Ashbury Avenue-
An unknown suspect shattered the window to the victim’s vehicle between the 24th and the 26th.

Warrant Arrest – 10900 San Pablo Avenue
At 2:34 am, an officer reports the arrest of a 36-year-old man who came to the police department to turn himself in. The man was issued a citation and was released.

April 27th

Shoplifting- 2000 El Cerrito Plaza, Ross-
An unknown suspect entered the business and stole $332.00 worth of clothing.

Shoplifting – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza, Ross
At 8:17 pm, an officer reports an unknown male and female suspect entered the business. The male distracted staff while the female exited with merchandise.

Shoplifting – 670 El Cerrito Plaza, CVS
At 9:19 pm, an officer repots the arrest of a 41-year-old man after he was identified as having stolen merchandise from the store. The man was placed under Citizens Arrest and later released with a citation.

April 28th

Shoplifting- 2000 El Cerrito Plaza, Ross-
An unknown suspect entered the business at 4:31 pm and stole $800.00 worth of clothing.

Vandalism, Criminal Threats & Parole Violation- 11299 San Pablo Avenue-
At 4:42 pm, officers responded to Del Norte Liquors on the report of a person breaking a COVID protective barrier and threatening to kill the employee.  Officers located the suspect, a 30-year-old man, resting on a park bench across the street from the police department. The man was placed under citizen’s arrest and found to be on parole for burglary. After being booked at the ECPD, the man was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Robbery – 10759 San Pablo Avenue, Marshalls
At 6:45 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect approached a woman exiting the business and demanded money from her. The woman, afraid the suspect was armed, handed over cash from her purse. The crime occurred approximately 1 ½ weeks earlier.

April 28th

Fraud – 11450 San Pablo Avenue, US Bank
At 9:04 pm, an officer reports a suspect entered the bank branch and attempted to cash an altered check.

Warrant Arrest – Arlington Blvd / Potrero Ave
At 1:42 pm, an officer reports the arrest of a 41-year-old woman who was contacted during a pedestrian stop. The woman was found to have a warrant for her arrest and was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

April 30

Commercial Burglary – 11700 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 0918 hours, an officer reports an unknown suspect was able to gain access to a service hallway to a business. The suspect then cut a hole through a wall and entered a business. Once inside the suspect removed three laptops and fled.

Shoplifting – El Cerrito Plaza:
At 1:45 pm, an officer reports the arrest of a 26-year-old female after the female entered a business, concealed merchandise, and attempted to leave without paying. The female also had three warrants out for her arrest for theft. The female was released on a citation.

Attempted Grand Theft – 600 block of Norvell St:
At 6:01pm, an officer reports that two unknown suspects attempted to steal the catalytic converter from the victim’s vehicle. The victim interrupted the theft and scared the suspects away.

Tampering with A Vehicle – 2300 block of Gloria St:
At 6:42pm, an officer reports that an unknown suspect removed bolts from the heat shield underneath the victim’s vehicle sometime during the night.

May 1

Attempted Theft from Auto – 6800 block of Snowdon Ave:
At 11:29 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered the victim’s unlock vehicle and ransacked the interior. However, there was no stolen property.

Shoplifting – El Cerrito Plaza:
At 5:27 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered the business, selected merchandise, and left without paying.

May 2

Vehicle Tampering – 2600 block of Mira Vista Dr:
At 9:52 am, an officer reports a victim walked out their home and caught a subject underneath their vehicle in attempt to remove the catalytic converter. The subject ran to an awaiting vehicle which fled the area.

Auto Burglary – 500 block of Liberty St:
An officer reports an unknown suspect shattered a window of two of the victim’s vehicles. The suspect removed a backpack containing electronics from one vehicle and a wallet from the other.

Vehicle Tampering – 7400 block of Moeser Lane:
At 11:21 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect shattered a window to the victim’s vehicle and then damaged the stirring column in attempt to steal the vehicle.

Public Intoxication – BART Path/Fairmount Ave:
At 7:54 pm, an officer was flagged down by a concerned citizen regarding a couple arguing nearby. When the officer arrived, the couple were determined to be intoxicated.  A 27-year-old man from Albany and 24-year-old woman from Albany were placed under arrest. Both suspects were transported directly to the Martinez Detention Facility.

May 3

Shoplifting – 11300 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 9:23 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered the store, walked behind the counter and selected a carton of cigarettes. The suspect then fled the store to an awaiting vehicle. Prior to leaving the store, the clerk was attempting to call 911 and suspect slapped the phone out of the clerk’s hand.

Stolen Vehicle – 6500 block of Manila Ave:
At 1:59 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect took the victim’s vehicle.

Vehicle Tampering – 7100 block of Gladys Ave:
At 3:58 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect was caught under the victim’s vehicle attempting to take the catalytic converter. The suspect fled to an awaiting vehicle and fled the area prior to police arrival.
