Please be advised that recently we have received reports from the public that they have received e-mails from religious leaders. Upon closer inspection these email address are newly created e-mails made to look like the legitimate e-mail address for the religious leader.

These e-mails are requesting that members go to the store and buy gift cards so that they may be used by members of the church who are currently in the hospital. When the gift cards are purchased the scammer requests the activation codes off of the cards and tells the member that they are too busy to accept the donation in person.

If you receive an e-mail like this please verify the e-mail by contacting the religious institution by phone and verifying that this is a legitimate request.
