Sober or Hand ‘Em Over: Celebrate Cinco de Mayo Responsibly
Rialto, Calif. – Whether it is meeting with a small group of friends or holding a virtual get together, the Rialto Police Department encourages the public to celebrate the holiday responsibly by designating a sober driver.
On May 5, 2021, the Rialto Police Department will have additional officers on patrol from 4:30 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
“If you choose to drink this Cinco de Mayo, make sure you have a designated sober driver or use a rideshare program”, said Rialto Police Chief Mark Kling. “Decide today that you won’t ever drive after drinking or impaired by drugs. If you know someone who is about to drive buzzed or ‘high’, step in, take their keys, and help them make arrangements to get home safely.”
The Rialto Police Department also reminds the public that in addition to alcohol, drugs may also impair, including marijuana. Always be sure to check your medications and avoid driving after use if there is a “do not operate heavy machinery,” “may cause drowsiness” or other warning label.
Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
