Suspect Arrested in an Attempted Theft and Firearm Brandishing Incident

Suspect:  Mendoza, Jonathan, 19-year-old male (In-custody)

On May 8, 2021, at approximately 11:30 PM Redwood City Police Officers responded to the 1100 block of King Street on report of an attempted bike theft from a residence.  The attempted theft was interrupted by the owner and the suspects fled on foot.  The bike owner found the suspects a short distance away and one of them brandished a handgun at the owner, who was then able to escape and returned home.  Responding officers searched the area for the suspects and located three subjects in the 500 block of Vera Avenue who matched the description provided by the bike owner.  The three subjects were detained and Mendoza was positively identified as the individual who had brandished the handgun.  Officers searched the surrounding area and recovered a loaded 9mm handgun which had been discarded nearby.  Mendoza was booked into county jail on charges of brandishing a firearm.  A case against the other two detained subjects will be submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
