Rosemead Appoints Lieutenant Joe Hernandez as the New Chief of Police

The City of Rosemead, in conjunction with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD), is pleased to announce the appointment of LASD Lieutenant Joe Hernandez as Rosemead’s new Chief of Police.

Lieutenant Hernandez has served with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department for over twenty years.  His LASD career began as a Deputy Sheriff at Century Regional Detention Facility and, after a couple of years, moved to Men’s Central Jail to continue to serve as a Deputy Sheriff.  Lieutenant Hernandez was later assigned to the Pico Rivera Station, where he worked for almost ten years and served as a Deputy Sheriff, Senior Field Training Officer, and Detective Bureau.

In 2015, Lieutenant Hernandez was promoted to Sergeant at the East Los Angeles Station, where he served as Field Sergeant, Detective Sergeant, Watch Sergeant, and Watch Commander. In 2016, he was assigned as Sergeant for the City of Commerce.  Lieutenant Hernandez’s investigative and supervisory experience will be an incredible asset in his role as Chief of Police.

“I am very grateful and honored to have been selected as the Rosemead Chief of Police. I vow to provide a safe City for all people, and I am committed to enhancing public safety through partnerships with our community members,” Hernandez said. “The Rosemead Team will continue to relentlessly fight crime while maintaining public confidence.”

Lieutenant Hernandez holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Studies and Vocational Arts from California State University, Long Beach.

In his spare time, Lieutenant Hernandez enjoys being in the outdoors, off-roading, and fishing.
