On Sunday, May 2, 2021, Investigators from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Bureau responded to a burglary/sexual assault incident involving a 79 year-old female. During the early morning hours, the unknown suspect entered the victim’s residence through a window, woke the victim from her sleep and physically and sexually assaulted her. The suspect left the location and fled the area by unknown means. The victim subsequently notified a family member, who in turn called 911.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies assigned to the Industry Station immediately responded to the victim’s home, rendered aid, and initiated an investigation. The victim was treated at a local hospital for injuries she sustained during the incident.
The suspect was described as a male Hispanic, 19-25 years old, short dark hair, approximately 5’06”–5’07”, 140-160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt with unknown white printed letters on the front, blue jeans, and a black cap.
Special Victims Bureau detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect involved in this crime. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or any suspicious activity in or around the 1300 block of Kwis Avenue on Sunday, May 2, 2021, between 2:00 am and 5:00 am, is asked to contact Special Victims Bureau. Additionally, residents within a ½ mile vicinity are asked to check any security cameras for video footage which may have captured suspicious activity around the time of occurrence.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Special Victims Bureau Investigators are advising the suspect was identified as Manuel Soto, male Hispanic 22 years-old. He was arrested by detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department on Saturday, May 8, 2021 for an unrelated robbery.
Manuel Soto was additionally charged on Monday, May 10, 2021, with Assault to Commit a Felony During the Commission of a First Degree Burglary, 220(b) PC, as it related to the sexual assault on Kwis Avenue, Hacienda Heights.
On Tuesday, May 11, 2021, Manuel Soto appeared for arraignment at Pomona Superior Court where the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed the following criminal charges:
Count 1:Assault to Commit a Felony During the Commission of a First Degree Burglary, 220(b) PC.
Count 2:Forcible Oral Copulation, 287(c)(2)(A) PC.
Count 3:Forcible Rape, 261(a)(2) PC.
Count 4:First Degree Residential Burglary with Person Present, 459 PC.
Count 5:Elder or Dependent Adult Abuse, 368(b)(1) PC.
Count 6:Second Degree Burglary, 459 PC.
Count 7:Second Degree Burglary, 459 PC.
Count 8:Second Degree Robbery, 211 PC
The suspect remains in custody and his bail is set at $1,5000,000. His next court date is Monday, May 24, 2021, in Department F of the Pomona Courthouse.
