Patterson, CA – 

Detectives with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office have made a homicide arrest related tothe body recovered from the California Aqueduct in Westley on Wednesday, May 11, 2021.

During their follow-up investigation, 33-year-old Patterson resident, Juan Ramon Haro Ortega,was identified as a person of interest in the death of Anthony “Tony” Pistoia. Both men werePatterson residents and were believed to have been roommates with one another. The victimwas 62 years-old at the time of his death.

While an arrest has been made in this case, our investigators are still contacting, interviewingand identifying other witnesses. We will be awaiting the results of a forensic autopsy scheduledfor later today, and an official cause of death will not be announced until an official finding canbe made through our Coroner’s Division. The location of the primary crime scene, which waswhere both men lived, is believed to have been in the 1100 block of Tern Way in Patterson.

Ortega is currently being held without bail at the Stanislaus County Public Safety Centerawaiting arraignment for homicide, assault and Immigration and Naturalization Service holdcharges.
