El Cerrito Crime Blotter: May 4th - 9th, 2021

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
 
May 4, 2021
 
Recovered Stolen Vehicle- Cypress Avenue @ South 55th Street-
An officer recovered a red Nissan Sentra which was reported stolen from Bay Point on March 14th.
 
Domestic Battery- 500 block of Oak Street-
At 8:57 am, officers arrested a 39-year-old man for domestic violence after he shoved his girlfriend during an argument.
 
May 5, 2021
 
Grand Theft- 1300 block of Richmond Street-
An unknown suspect stole the catalytic converter from a Honda Accord sometime during the night of the 3rd.
 
Vehicle Theft- 10500 block of San Pablo Avenue-
On the night of the 4th, an unknown suspect stole a 1995 Toyota Corolla and abandoned it a short distance away from where it was originally parked.
 
Vehicle Burglary- 10636 San Pablo Avenue-
At noon on the 5th, an unknown suspect shattered the window to a Honda and stole a backpack containing a MacBook.
 
Shoplifting – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza, Ross-
At 7:59 pm, an officer reports the Citizen’s Arrest of a 53-year-old man who was found with stolen merchandise from the business. The man was issued a citation and released from the scene.
 
May 6, 2021
 
Recovered Stolen Vehicle- 2100 block of Kearney Street-
A community service officer recovered a 1999 Toyota Camry which was reported stolen to the Oakland Police Department on the 19th of April.
 
Burglary- 9989 San Pablo Avenue, O’Reilly
At 5:38 am, officers responded to an alarm at the business and found a side door to the business forced open. During the investigation, officers learned the suspect stole numerous tools which were stored behind the service desk.
 
Shoplifting – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza, Ross-
At 8:30 pm, an officer reports an unknown male entered the business and left with merchandise without providing payment.

At 9:34 pm, an officer reports the Citizen’s Arrest of a 24-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman after the pair attempted to exit the business wearing several pieces of store merchandise. Both were issued a citation and released at the scene.
 
Vandalism – 5300 block of Cypress Avenue
At 5:06 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect damaged the victim’s vehicle with a hammer.
 
May 7
 
Petty Theft – 6600 block of Gatto Ave:
At 1:37 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole a package off a victim’s porch.
 
Grand Theft – 5300 block of Macdonald Ave:
At 3:00 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from a victim’s vehicle.
 
Possession of a loaded concealed firearm – San Pablo Avenue at Knott Avenue:
At 11:12 pm two officers were on a traffic enforcement stop when one of the officers saw a handgun inside of a bag on the passenger seat of the vehicle.  The driver was placed under arrest and a loaded handgun was located inside of the backpack.  The driver was booked at ECPD and then issued a citation and released.  
 
May 8
 
Warrant Arrest – 10650 San Pablo Avenue:
 At 1:04 am  an officer saw a subject riding his bicycle that he knew had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  The subject was placed under arrest for the outstanding warrant held by the El Cerrito PD and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 
 
Attempted Robbery – 11500 block of San Pablo Ave:
 At 4:30 pm, an officer reports a victim was playing basketball when two subjects approached him. One of the suspects grabbed the victim by the arms while the other attempted to take his property. The victim was able to fend off the subjects who fled with no property.
 
Battery – BART Path and Blake St:
 At 4:30 pm, an officer reports a victim was sitting on the BART Path when he was approached by two subjects. One of the subjects was known to the victim. The subject who the victim knew, kicked the victim, who went unconscious. The subjects then fled the area.
 
Vehicle Tampering – 7600 block of Lynn Ave:
 At 7:36 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect shattered two windows to the victim’s vehicle and ransacked the interior. No property was taken.
 
Vehicle Tampering – 500 block of Clayton Ave:
 At 8:50 am, an officer report an unknown suspect shattered the driver window to the victim’s vehicle and ransacked the interior. No property was taken.
 
Battery – 1100 block of Richmond St:
 At 3:16 pm, an officer reports a subject who the victim has bought drugs from in the past shoved the victim and threatened her when she refused to by any drugs. The subject got into a vehicle and fled the area before police arrival.
 
May 9
 
Warrant Arrest – Moeser Lane at Navellier Street:
At 12:47 am an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle and found the driver had an outstanding warrant for her arrest held by the Richmond Police Department.  They were placed under arrest and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 
 
DUI collision – 800 block of Arlington Blvd:
At 3:02 am officers were dispatched to a vehicle that had collided into a parked vehicle.  The driver was heavily intoxicated and was transported to the hospital to be checked out.  The driver was issued a citation at the hospital for driving under the influence.  
 
DUI – San Pablo Ave and Potrero Ave:
At 1:13 pm, an officer reports an arrest of an adult male for DUI. The male drove over a center median and collided into a parked car. The driver was taken into custody, booked, and then released on a citation to next of kin.
 
Attempted Grand Theft – 300 block of Ashbury Avenue:
At 6:15 pm officers were dispatched for the report of an attempted theft of a catalytic converter from a vehicle.  The suspect fled prior to police arrival.  
 
 Vehicle Tampering – 2200 block of Mono Avenue:
At 10:58 pm officers were dispatched to the report of a person inside of the victim vehicle attempting to steal items.  A witness scared off the suspect before officers arrived on scene.  There was no loss.
