The San Anselmo Bear has headed back to open space near Mt. Tam 7:46 pm.
At 7:46 pm the bear came down on his own, and with the encoragement of first responders, he moved to the open space areas near Mt. Tam, where he will hopefully remain.
However, in an abundance of caution, for the next 24 to 48 hours, please ecure any outdoor trash or pet food indoors, or in your closed garage. if you see the bear, keep at least 100 yards away from it, do not approach the bear, and call 9-1-1
The bear population is growing, and sightings have become common in Sonoma County but very unusual in Marin. There have only been 2 or 3 bear sightings in Marin since 2003. This is the time of year that juvenile male bears leave their mothers and establish their own territories.
This was a peaceful resolution for all involved. Many thanks to all the allied agencies who responded to this incident.
