The Municipality of Anchorage Adopts Ready, Set, Go! for Wildfire Preparedness

May is National Wildfire Awareness Month and the Anchorage Fire Department is rolling out the national Ready, Set, Go! Program to help the residents of the municipality prepare for Wildland Fire Season. Make sure to protect yourself and your family – plan, prepare and stay aware.

“It is important for all Anchorage residents to protect themselves and their families.” said AFD Deputy Fire Chief Mark Monfore, “The Ready, Set, Go! program is designed to help residents to prepare for wildfires as well as what steps should be taken if a wildfire threatens their homes.”

The elements of Ready, Set, Go! include:

  • READY- Be Ready: Create and maintain defensible space and harden your home against flying embers. Reference the Firewise Tips to help you prepare your home through landscaping, building materials and understanding Alaska Vegetation.
  • SET- Be Alert. Prepare your family and home ahead of time for the possibility of having to evacuate. Prepare a go kit and make a plan for how to evacuate your home and neighborhood.
  • GO! - Act Early! Keep yourself informed, get your go kit and leave before the threat reaches your community.
