El Cerrito Police Department Crime Blotter: May 10th - 17th, 2021

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

May 10, 2021

Vehicle theft- 3200 block of Carlson Boulevard:
An unknown suspect stole a 1996 Isuzu NPR box truck around 5:23 am.  It was later recovered partially stripped on I-80.

Grand Theft- 6000 block of Potrero Avenue:
An unknown suspect stole the catalytic converter from a Toyota Tacoma on the 10th between 4:30 am and 1:30 pm.

Vehicle Theft- 1500 block of Elm Street:
Between May 7th at 12:00 pm and May 8th at 8:00 an unknown suspect stole a Honda CRV.

Grand Theft- 7400 block of Ward Avenue:
An unknown suspect swindled a resident out of a large sum of money through an internet scam.

Shoplifting – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza:
At 6:43 pm, an officer reports a suspect entered the business, selected several pairs of shoes and personal accessories, and then immediately exited the business without providing payment.
 
May 11, 2021

Attempt Grand Theft- 2300 block of Mono Avenue:
An unknown suspect attempted to steal the catalytic converter from a Honda CRV sometime during the early morning hours.    

Recovered Stolen Vehicle- 11820 San Pablo Avenue:
An officer assisted with the recovery of a stolen vehicle that the victim located on their own in Oakland and brought the vehicle in for service.

Vehicle theft- 3400 block of Yosemite Avenue:
An officer reports an unknown suspect stole a 1992 Toyota pickup truck sometime during the night of the 10th.

Vehicle theft- 3300 block of Belmont Avenue:
At 0637 am, an officer responded to the report of a stolen Chevrolet truck. 

Recovered Stolen Vehicle-11299 San Pablo Avenue:
A community service officer recovered a 2017 scooter which was reported stolen to the Oakland Police Department several weeks ago.

May 12th, 2021

Burglary- 1600 block of Arlington Boulevard:
An unknown suspect broke into the residence via a bedroom window and stole a safe and several laptops sometime during the day.

May 13th, 2021

Petty Theft- 3030 El Cerrito Plaza:
At 12:32 pm, an unknown suspect took a drink from Starbucks and left without paying.

Vandalism- 10056 San Pablo Avenue, Granters
An unknown suspect tried to break the front window to Granters with a hammer between 11:29 am and 11:58 am.

Shoplifting- 11565 San Pablo Avenue
At 8:53 am, an unknown male entered the business and stole a bag filled with miscellaneous items.

Grand theft- 11565 San Pablo Avenue
An unknown male and female stole over a thousand dollars in merchandise at 10:45 am.

Vandalism- 11280 San Pablo Avenue
During the night of the 11th, an unknown suspect sprayed an unknown substance on 6 vehicles which required extensive cleaning to remove.

Reckless  – 2000 block of Key Blvd
At 10:38 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect caused a homeless encampment to catch fire and burn an area of heavy vegetation, no injury and no damage to structures was discovered.

Vandalism – 6400 block of Portola Drive
At 10:39 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect used an unknown item to break the glass in the front door of an apartment complex.

May 14th

Grand Theft - 2600 block of Tamalpais Ave:
At 08:15 am, an officer responded to the report of an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from the victim’s Honda Accord. The time of occurrence was between 5/12/21 at 0730 hours to 0815 hours on 5/14/21.  

Shoplifting - 11319 San Pablo Avenue
At 08:29 am, an officer responded to the report of a frequent shoplifter who entered the store, stole food items and then fled the area on foot.

Grand Theft – 1200 Liberty St.
At 1102 am, an officer reported an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from the victim’s Honda Accord. The time of occurrence was between 5/6/21 to 5/13/21.

Stolen Vehicle – 800 block of Shevlin Dr:
At 14:26 pm, an officer responded to the report that an unknown suspect stole the victim’s Chevy Silverado. The time of occurrence was between 1930 hours on 5/13/21 to 1426 hours on 5/14/21.

Stolen Vehicle – 5800 block of El Dorado Ave:
At 14:42 pm, an officer responded to the report that an unknown suspect stole a Honda Accord. The time of occurrence was between 2330 hours on 5/13/21 to 1442 hours on 5/14/21.

Grand Theft - 6060 Central Ave:
At 16:07 pm, an officer responded to the report that an unknown suspect stole a catalytic converter from the victim’s Honda Accord. The time of occurrence was between 1700 to 0120 hours on 5/9/21.  

Possession of Controlled Substance – San Pablo Avenue near Potrero Avenue:
At 11:30 pm, an officer saw a vehicle speeding on San Pablo Avenue.  The officer stopped the vehicle, and the driver was on probation in Contra Costa County and Alameda County.  The officer searched the vehicle and found 19.6 grams of Methamphetamine in the vehicle.  The driver was issued a citation and released.      

May 15th

Catalytic converter theft – 600 block of Clayton Avenue:
At 5:00 am an officer was patrolling when he saw a vehicle with a large rock under the tire.  The officer examined the vehicle and saw that the catalytic converter had been stolen from the vehicle. 

Stolen Vehicle – 5100 block of Potrero Ave:
At 10:29 hours, an officer reported that an unknown suspect stole the victim’s white 2001 Ford F-150.  The vehicle was taken between 1700 hours on 5/14/21 and 0800 hours on 5/15/21.

Burglary  – 10650 San Pablo Ave (CVS):
At 11:41 am, an officer was dispatched to the report that an unknown suspect smashed a passenger side window to the victim’s vehicle and removed a purse. The suspect then got into a grey 2010’s model Nissan Altima, with tinted windows, black rims and fled the scene.

May 16th

Commercial Burglary - 10422 San Pablo Ave: 
At 1:12 pm, officers responded to the report of a commercial burglary.  The suspects, a 38 year old Richmond man kicked in the front glass window and then made entry into the bank.  He was located nearby and detained after initally refusing to stop.  He was arrested, booked and transorted to the MDF.   

Negligent Discharge of a Firearm – 11299 San Pablo Avenue:
At 9:07 pm, officers were dispatched to the shopping center for the report that a suspect was armed with a gun and had fired it in the parking lot.  As officers approached the shopping center, they located the suspect who was detained and during a search a loaded 9mm handgun was found in his pocket.  Officers found a shell casing and part of the bullet that was fired on the walkway in front of the businesses.  The subject was arrested, booked at ECPD, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.    

May 17th

Stolen Vehicle - 6700 Fairmount Ave (RR Auto Service):
At 09:15 am, an officer responded to the report of two suspects stealing a flatbed tow truck. 

Commercial Burglary – 7509 Fairmount Ave (Happy Cleaners):
At 09:16 am, an officer responded to the report of a commercial burglary.  An unknown suspect pried open the front door to the business and made entry. Once inside the suspect stole property.  The time of occurrence was between 1700 hours on 5/15/21 to 0900 hours on 5/17/2021. 

Grand Theft – 5700 block of Alta Punta Ave:
At 2:54 pm, officers responded to the report that an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from the victim’s 2004 Honda Accord.

Shoplifting – Sketchers, 5805 Cutting Blvd:
At 4:24 pm, an officer responded to the report of a 60-year-old San Bernardino man and a woman stealing shoes from the store. The male suspect was located by responding officers as he fled area.  He was arrested and then released on citation.   

Grand Theft – 1000 Liberty St:
At 4:55 pm, an officer responded to the report of a theft.  The victim reported being involved in a verbal altercation with the suspect, a 31-year-old male after he stole cash and tools from his vehicle.  Officers located the suspect nearby.  He was arrested and released on a citation. 

Catalytic Converter theft – 10944 San Pablo Avenue:     
At 2:01 am, officers were dispatched to the parking lot of the apartment complex for the report that people were looking into cars.  Officers arrived and found two of the suspects in their car with a stolen catalytic converter in the backseat.  As officers were looking around to see what car the catalytic converter had been stolen from, they found a third suspect hiding on the ground in front of a car.  Officers located three additional catalytic converters which appeared to have been stolen.  All three suspects were arrested, booked at ECPD, and then issued citations and released.

Robbery – 410 El Cerrito Plaza:
At 11:00 pm, an officer was dispatched for the report of a Robbery that had occurred at 2:00 pm today.  The victim described that she was waiting outside of a business in the El Cerrito Plaza talking on her cell phone. A suspect came up to her and ripped the cell phone out of her hand causing her to fall to the ground and sustain minor injuries.   .
