* WHAT...West winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts of 60 mph or higher expected. The strongest winds will occur during the afternoon and evening hours. Local gusts above 70 mph may occur at the foot of the mountain passes.

* WHERE...Areas through and below the canyons and passes.

* WHEN...Until 11 PM PDT Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Damaging winds may blow down trees and power lines. Local power outages are possible. Strong cross winds will be hazardous for motorists in high profile vehicles such as campers and tractor trailers. Areas of blowing dust will restrict visibility in some locations.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Highways impacted include Highway 58 through and below Tehachapi pass including the town of Mojave. Highway 14...Highway 178 below Walker pass and U.S. 395.
