On Sunday May 16, 2021, Joseph told family members he wanted to go to “29 Palms” for religious purposes. Joseph’s Grandmother drove him out to the area of Highway 62 and Ironage Road in the unincorporated area of Wonder Valley. Joseph exited the vehicle and walked away telling family he would be okay. Joseph did not have a cell phone and only had a limited amount of water on him. When family did not hear from Joseph days later, they searched the area and did not find him. Family then reported Joseph missing to the Morongo Basin Station. On May 20, a witness came forward stating they saw a subject matching Joseph’s description near Vidal Junction on Highway 62, east of where he was dropped off.
