Suspect:  Nguyen, Vy Thac 62-year old male (In-custody)

On Friday, 05/21/2021, at 11:15 AM, Redwood City Police Officers responded to the main branch of the San Mateo Credit Union at 350 Convention Way on a report of theft of US currency from numerous San Mateo Credit Union ATM machines in Redwood City and San Mateo. Through an investigation, it was learned that the suspect, identified Vy Thac Nguyen, was the ATM service technician and embezzled about $145,000 from San Mateo Credit Union ATM machines in Redwood City and approximately $47,000 from an ATM machine in San Mateo between 5/16/21 and 5/18/21 for a total loss of approximately $192,000. He used a fictitious work order to access and open the ATM machines.

RCPD Detectives obtained a search warrant for Nguyen, his vehicles and his residence.  Detectives served the search warrant at Nguyen’s residence in San Jose.  Evidence was seized at the residence implicating Nguyen of the crimes.  Nguyen was booked into the San Mateo County Jail for commercial burglary and embezzlement.
