Rosemead to Unveil Anti-Hate Artwork by Asian American Artist

The City of Rosemead, in conjunction with the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair Hilda L. Solis (First District Supervisor), is pleased to announce a joint effort with the Los Angeles County Human Relations Commission on an anti-hate activist initiative to unveil a large public art piece. This 10x20 foot graphic piece, designed by renowned local artist Mari Naomi, depicts the history and many contributions of the AAPI community to Los Angeles County, the contemporary targeting of AAPI residents due to COVID-related backlash, the journey from hate to healing, and the need for advocacy to ensure solidarity and inclusion for all.

The unveiling event follows a March 9, 2021, motion, authored by Chair Solis and unanimously passed by the Board of Supervisors, to expand the County’s L.A. vs. Hate initiative to combat against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. L.A. vs. Hate enables Los Angeles County residents who are survivors of hate crimes and hate acts to report hate to 211-L.A. and connects these victims with a network of local and culturally attuned organizations that provide assistance and prevention strategies.

The event details are as follows:
