El Cerrito Police Department Blotter: May 18th - 23rd, 2021

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

May 18th: 

Grand theft- 700 block of Elm Street-
At 6:33 am, an officer responded to the report that an unknown suspect stole the catalytic convertor from a Prius sometime during the night of the 17th.

Vehicle Tampering- 400 block of Colusa Avenue-
At 9:30 am, an officer responded to the report that an unknown suspect entered the victim’s vehicle during the night of the 17th, rummaged through the interior but did not steal anything.

Attempted Grand Theft- 2500 block of Tamalpais Avenue-
At 6:28 pm, an officer reports two unknown suspects attempted to remove the catalytic converter from the underside of the victim’s vehicle. The victim confronted the two suspects who fled the area in a gold pickup truck.

May 19th:

Arson- 5920 Cutting Boulevard-
At 3:42 pm, officers were dispatched to Jack in the Box where a man was inside causing a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers located the man in a grassy area adjacent to the business and I-80 that he had just set on fire.  The man was arrested, and the Richmond Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire. The man was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility for booking.    

Grand theft- 6400 block of Knott Avenue-
Around 5:00 pm, a community member saw two suspects steal the catalytic converter from a Honda Accord.

Shoplifting – 11555 San Pablo Avenue (DD’s Discount):
At 6:00 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered the business, selected merchandise and exited without payment.
 
May 20th: 

Burglary- 600 block of Lexington Avenue-
An unknown suspect broke into a garage and stole a bicycle sometime during the night of the 19th.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle:
A community service officer recovered an EZ-GO golf cart which was reported stolen on the 19th from the UC Berkeley campus.

Grand Theft- 600 block of Everett Street-
At 5:59 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from the underside of the victim’s vehicle sometime during the prior evening.

May 21st:

Grand Theft – 6400 block of Conlon Ave:
At 8:40 hours, an officer reports an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from a victim’s vehicle.

Burglary – 11299 San Pablo Avenue:
At 7:30 pm an officer was sent for the report that someone had broken into a car and removed property earlier in the day.

Vehicle Tampering – 11299 San Pablo Avenue:
At 7:30 pm while investigating the above vehicle burglary, the officer noticed another vehicle had a broken window.  It was determined that someone had reached into the vehicle to look behind the seat but had not stolen anything.    

May 22nd:

Robbery, Warrant Arrest – El Cerrito Plaza:
At 10:21 am, an officer responded to the report of a theft that had just occurred.  The suspect threatened staff and stole property.  The suspect, a 31-year-old male was located nearby and the property was recovered.  The subject was also wanted on a felony warrant from Solano County.  The suspect was booked and then taken to county jail.

Vandalism – 11300 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 11:04 am, an officer reports the arrest of a 33-year-old female after the female broke a window to the business. The female was identified and then released on a citation.

Burglary – 200 block of Behrens St:
At 3:22 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect forced entry into a locked shed and took two bicycles.

Shoplifting – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross):
At 1812 hours an officer was sent to Ross for the report that a suspect had just ran out with property that they had not paid for.  The suspect was not located. 

Grand Theft – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS):
At 9:48 pm an officer was sent to CVS for the report that a suspect had ran out of the store with $1000.00 worth of merchandise.  The suspect was not located.   

May 23rd:

Driving Under the Influence – San Pablo Avenue at Hill Street:
At 2:28 am an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle and after an investigation determined the driver was intoxicated.  The driver was arrested, booked at ECPD, issued a citation, and then released to a sober family member. 

Possession of a Controlled Substance – Hagen Blvd. at Tapscott Avenue:
At 3:30 am, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle.  The driver had a suspended driver’s license and during a search of the vehicle Methamphetamine was found in the driver’s purse.  The driver was arrested and issued a citation and released at the scene. 

Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Warrant Arrest – Manila Ave and Kearney St:
At 7:51 am, an officer located an occupied stolen vehicle. The driver, a 33-year-old female, and the passenger, a 43-year-old male were taken into custody. The female was identified and then released on a citation. The male was wanted on two outstanding warrants and taken to county jail.

Arson – 1700 block of Eastshore Blvd:
At 8:29 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect set a vehicle on fire. The owner was not located, and police responded to the address of the owner but did not locate them.

Auto Burglary – 11200 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 10:40 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect smashed a window to a victim’s vehicle and removed property.

Robbery – 225 El Cerrito Plaza:
At 8:29 pm, officers were dispatched to a robbery that just occurred.  Two suspects forced the victim to the ground.  One of the suspects stood on her back and kicked her phone away from her and then picked it up and fled.  One of the two suspects was located at the Plaza Bart station and placed under arrest.  The victim’s stolen property was recovered from the suspect.  The suspect was arrested, booked at ECPD, and then transported to Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall. 

Assault with a Deadly Weapon – 800 block of Everett Street:
At 11:10 pm, officers were dispatched to a home where a victim had been stabbed after the suspect forced his way into a structure where she was staying.  Officers rendered medical aid until EMS arrived.  The victim was transported to the hospital by an ambulance.  The victim named the suspect and gave officers a description of him.  About an hour later, an officer spotted the suspect in another part of the city.  The suspect, a 43-year-old male was taken into custody after fleeing on foot and hiding.  The suspect was arrested, booked at ECPD, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
