The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill MO has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for... Northwestern Johnson KS County in east central Kansas... Southern Leavenworth County in northeastern Kansas... Wyandotte County in northeastern Kansas... Southwestern Clay County in west central Missouri... Northwestern Jackson County in west central Missouri... Southeastern Platte County in west central Missouri...

* Until 900 PM CDT.

* At 555 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Kansas City, Overland Park, Olathe, Independence, Shawnee, Lenexa, Liberty, Gladstone, Merriam, Mission, Smithville, Bonner Springs, De Soto, Parkville, Tonganoxie, Basehor, Edwardsville, North Kansas City, Sugar Creek and Riverside. This includes the following highways... Kansas Turnpike between mile markers 206 and 226. Interstate 435 between mile markers 6 and 24...and between mile markers 38 and 57. Interstate 35 in Kansas between mile markers 230 and 235. Interstate 635 between mile markers 0 and 12. Interstate 29 between mile markers 0 and 11. Interstate 35 in Missouri between mile markers 0 and 16. Interstate 70 in Kansas between mile markers 410 and 423. Interstate 70 in Missouri between mile markers 0 and 4.
