FURTHER UPDATE:

On May 27th 2021 at 9:43am, Deputies with the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 7755 S Carlisle St in regards to a death investigation.  Deputies found 72-year-old Gayle Wilson deceased in the residence with severe fatal wounds to her body.  Detectives were called to begin their homicide investigation.
 
While talking to witnesses, Wilson’s son Michael Wilson age 40 became a person of interest.  It was also discovered that Gayle Wilson’s Silver Subaru Outback was missing from the residence.  Soon after this information was obtained, we put out a Nixle release and distributed this information to local news outlets as well as the Terre Haute Police Department to attempt to locate Michael and the vehicle.

Detectives continued to process the crime scene and interview witnesses while consulting with the Vigo County Prosecutor’s Office at the crime scene which is customary on all violent crime investigations.

A short time later, a call was placed to Indiana DNR and the Owen County Sheriff’s Office reporting Michael and the vehicle at the Owen-Putnam State Forrest.  When they arrived he was not at the park.  While checking the area Michael and the vehicle were located by responding officers and deputies.  He was taken into custody around 5:00pm without incident and transported to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office where he is charged with Murder and Auto Theft.

This investigation is ongoing.

We thank our community for all of the tips that were received regarding this case.  Because of your tips a dangerous person is off of our streets within 8 hours of the reported crime.  Vigo and surrounding counties are safer because of your support.
