Trash, recycling, and brush pickup – not just a Collingswood problem (but one we’re addressing)

Many of you have been impacted by late pickup of trash, recycling or yard waste over the past month. This has been a chronic issue in Collingswood and neighboring towns that use Seaside Waste (formerly South Jersey Sanitation) as a waste vendor. Previously, the company faced COVID shortages, but now are facing “catastrophic” manpower shortages – they do not have enough employees to maintain their service. While Seaside Waste tries to solve its personnel problem, here are the steps Collingswood is taking to keep service going.

BOROUGH PLAN TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SERVICE: Seaside is prioritizing trash and recycling pickup and as a result brush is primarily left for the longest duration on curbstrips. To address this collection, Collingswood is mobilizing our Public Works department to double back on all yard waste routes on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday for all routes. We will continue to pick up remaining brush with Borough manpower until the staffing issues at Seaside are resolved. 
 
REPORT NON-PICKUP: One of the most helpful things you can do is report non-pickup of any materials every time it happens by using our Report an Issue button on Collingswood.com here or emailing [email protected]. Please include your address, if other homes on your block were missed, what type of material was not picked up and how long you have been waiting on pickup. 
We use this information to impose contractual penalties – reports of non-pickup are critical in addressing this with Seaside in both the long and short term. You can also alert Seaside Waste directly by calling 609-561-0441 (but please continue to communicate with Collingswood Public Works for any service issues as well).
