Mayor's Message 05/28/2021

Mayor’s Message of May 28, 2021

This is West Caldwell Mayor Joe Tempesta with a public service announcement.

It has been three weeks since my last call and I am happy to report that West Caldwell’s adult population has attained 70% receiving their vaccinations to fight the Covid-19 virus.

As of today Friday, May 28, 2021, we have had four (4) new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in West Caldwell’s general population since last my last call three weeks ago.

Since the beginning of the Pandemic, we have had a total of 723 cases, of which, we have had 14 citizens pass away in our general population. Thankfully, all 723 cases are closed whereby those citizens recovered and no longer quarantined.

In our two skilled nursing facilities combined, we have no current COVID-19 cases in Crane’s Mill and Hackensack Meridian Health WC Care Center.

We are committed to continue to provide our residents with services, programs, and events. The Township will be hosting a ceremony honoring our veterans this Memorial Day at Crane Park at 10:00 am. Parking will be available at Essex County College.

The Recreation Department is currently taking registrations for various programs including Swim Team, Swim Lessons, Basketball Camp, Math Camp, Reading Camp and our summer playground and Tot Lot programs.

Both town pools will be open this Memorial Day weekend Saturday, May 29th to Monday, May 31st from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm for paid members. The pools will be open Saturday and Sundays only until they open full-time on June 28th.

The pools will open full-time on June 28th. At this time, weekday hours will be 11:30 am to 8:00 pm.

Pool registrations are currently being accepted – registration can be made either online by visiting www.westcaldwell.com or pool applications are also available in the Municipal Building lobby.

The Municipal Building will be open to the public beginning June 1st. For the safety of the public and our employees, masks will be required.

Meetings of the Mayor and Council will once again be held in person. Our first in-person meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 1st at 7:15 pm in the Public Meeting Room of the Municipal Building.

I also ask that you continue to join me in thanking all our first responders and teachers. I also thank you for continuing to patronize our restaurants and retail stores.

All eligible individuals may register for the COVID vaccine through Essex County by visiting essexcovid.org or by calling 973-877-8456. Appointments are available immediately and I urge all of you that have not been vaccinated to please take advantage of this availability and get your vaccinations.  Thank you.
