The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit conducted it's 2021 Memorial Day Marine Enforcement Operation starting on Friday May 28 through Monday May 31. The operation was conducted along the Colorado River from the California/Nevada state line to the Riverside County line as well as Big Bear Lake and Lake Arrowhead.
Most of the operation was focused on the waterways with resorts, launch ramps and marinas along the river and lakes. A total of eleven patrol vessels, an OHV team, the Sheriff's Dive Team and two Sheriff's Department helicopters were deployed throughout the area. The Marine Enforcement unit conducted a total of two hundred and twenty five enforcement stops throughout the holiday weekend. There were a total of 16 arrests made for Boating Under the Influence, 2 arrests for public intoxication, 1 arrest for assault with a deadly weapon, and 1 warrant arrest. Victor Liu, 26 years old, Torrance, CA. (boating under the influence)
Mathew Alba, 41 years old, Herosa Beach, CA. (boating under the influence)
Maria Noval, 51 years old, Cathedral City, CA. (boating under the influence)
Seth Thomas, 40 years old, Carson, CA. (boating under the influence)
Bobby Shomer, 51 years old, Costa Mesa, CA. (boating under the influence)
Francisco Sanchez, 27 years old, Helendale, CA. (boating under the influence)
Jose Aranda, 41 years old, Santa Ana, CA. (boating under the influence)
Yarik Kamyshanov, 23 years old, Walla Walla, WA. (boating under the influence)
Robert Lundin, 44 years old, Lancaster, CA. (warrant arrest)
Timothy Anthony, 20 years old, Huntington Beach, CA. (public intoxication)
Kyle Orourke, 20 years old, Coto De Caza, CA. (public intoxication)
Jason Guerrero, 42 years old, Riverside, CA. (boating under the influence)
Nathaniel Zlicha, 22 years old, Calabasas, CA. (boating under the influence)
Christopher Peebles, 31 years old, Rialto, CA. (boating under the influence)
Jacob Dybis, 31 years old, Oro Valley, AZ. (boating under the influence)
Jason Briggs, 54 years old, Kingman, AZ. (boating under the influence)
Robert Hensen, 31 years old, Henderson, NV. (boating under the influence)
Michael Mendez, 21 years old, Menifee, CA. (boating under the influence)
Bryan Decarvalho, 40 years old, Torrance, CA. (assault with a deadly weapon)
Approximately 69 citations were issued for various boating law violations as well as 156 verbal warnings. The Marine Enforcement Unit investigated an injury boat accident on Lake Havasu near Havasu Landing Resort. A victim from the accident was flown by Sheriff’s Air Rescue to Havasu Regional Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit urges all California residents to go online to www.californiaboatercard.com and take the online test to obtain their boater card which is now required by law. The Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit is, as always, dedicated to providing a safe boating atmosphere for the public and reminds everyone to wear their life jackets and to boat sober.
