Catalytic Converter Etching Event

Catalytic converter thefts are significantly increasing within our communities. Unfortunately, most catalytic converters do not have serial numbers, making it remarkably difficult for law enforcement to determine ownership during catalytic converter theft investigations.
The Cypress Police Department is teaming up with the Buena Park and La Palma Police Departments and Orange County District Attorney’s Office to host a catalytic converter etching event. The process involves engraving the license plate number of a vehicle into its catalytic converter. Etching a catalytic converter can assist law enforcement in determining ownership, allowing police to return the catalytic converter or other associated property to its owners. It can also help with criminal prosecution.

The catalytic converter etching event will be on Saturday, June 12, 2021, in the parking lot of 7732 Western Avenue, in the City of Buena Park, from 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
