Crime Blotter for the Week of May 23-29, 2021

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of May 23, 2021– May 29, 2021.        
 
May 23, 2021

  • Burglary (Business):
A witness reported a theft at 1856 Huntington Drive (Cabrera’s). The witness stated that on 05-23-21 at 7:03 pm employees found an unknown male adult hiding in the business office. Cabrera’s employees detained the suspect pending Deputies arrival. After investigating the incident, Deputies arrested the suspect for burglary.
 
May 24, 2021
  • Robbery (Weapon):
A victim reported an unknown person robbed him on the 2100 Block of Mountain Avenue. The victim stated on 05-24-21 at 8:50 pm, the victim was sitting on a park bench when he was approached by a male adult with a bat and hit twice on the right shin. The suspect stole ten dollars from the victim and drove southbound on Mountain Avenue in a dark-colored vehicle and out of view. Deputies did not locate any surveillance video.
 
May 25, 2021
  • Grand Theft (Catalytic Converter):
A victim reported their vehicle catalytic converter was stolen near the 700 Block of Greenbank Avenue. The theft occurred between 05-24-21, 11:00 am, and 05-25-21, 11:30 am. Suspects stole the catalytic converter from the victim’s 2005 Toyota Prius. Deputies did not locate any surveillance video. The estimated loss was $1,500.
 
May 26, 2021
  • Grand Theft (Catalytic Converter):
A victim reported their vehicle catalytic converter was stolen near the 2000 Block of Citrus View Avenue. The theft occurred between 05-25-21, 1:00 pm, and 05-26-21, 8:30 am. Suspects stole the catalytic converter from the victim’s 2007 Honda Accord. Deputies did not locate any surveillance video. The estimated loss was $1,000.

  • No significant activity. 
May 28, 2021
  • Grand Theft Auto:
A victim reported their vehicle stolen near the 1600 Block of Mountain Avenue. The victim’s Chevy Silverado was stolen between 05-28-21, 10:00 pm, and 05-28-21, 11:40 am from the location. Deputies did not locate any surveillance video. Temple Sheriff Station recovered the vehicle on 05-28-21. No one in custody.
 
May 29, 2021
  • Grand Theft Auto:
A victim reported their vehicle stolen near the 500 Block of Mountain Crest Road. The victim’s Toyota Truck was stolen between 05-29-21, between 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm from the location. Deputies did not locate any surveillance video. Temple Sheriff Station recovered the vehicle on 05-29-21. No one in custody.
  • Petty Theft (Unlocked Vehicle):
A victim reported a theft near the 1700 Block of 3rd Street. The theft occurred on 05-29-21, between 5:50 am, and 6:10 am. The victim stated unknown persons entered her locked vehicle and stole her purse and glasses. Deputies did not find any forced entry into the car, nor did they locate any surveillance video. The estimated loss was $296.
  • Petty Theft (Delivered Package):
A victim reported a delivered package stolen near the 1600 Block of Duncannon Avenue. The victim’s reviewed his home security camera and saw a male adult take his package on 05-29-21 at approximately 8:30 pm. The suspect was seen wearing an “L.A. Rams” #13 jersey. The suspect walked away from the porch and drove away in a dark 4-door sport utility vehicle. Surveillance video captured the incident. The estimated loss was $94.80.
  • Grand Theft (Shoplifting):
An informant reported a theft at 1600 Mountain Avenue (Walmart). Loss prevention saw a female adult on 05-29-21 at 8:08 pm not paying for all the items in her shopping cart at the “self-checkout” register. After completing her transaction, the suspect walked out of the store with the unpaid items. The suspect was detained by loss prevention security. After investigating the incident, Deputies arrested the suspect for shoplifting. Surveillance video captured the incident. The estimated loss was $202.

Principles of Crime Prevention- Continued           

  1. Access Control- Looking at measures that will control access to a person, or object.
    • Locking your doors and windows to both your house and your vehicle
    • Ensuring that fencing, hedges, walls, and other boundary treatments are in a good state of repair
    • Installing a security system
  2. Surveillance- Improving surveillance around homes, businesses, or public places to deter criminals.
    • Removing high hedges or items at your home that allows an offender to work unseen
    • Establishing a Neighborhood Watch on your street
  3. Neighborhood- Ensuring your community looks cared for.
    • Report broken street lights
    • Have graffiti and waste on the street removed
  4. Deterring an offender
    • Use timer switches to make your home look occupied if vacant when gone overnight
    • Contact the post office to have mail placed on hold if gone on vacation
