Man with drugs leads deputies on pursuit

Lt. Jason Cook of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Cody Lee McKinney, 26, address listed as Harmony Grove Road in Nebo, with failure to heed a blue light or siren, fleeing to elude arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a Schedule III controlled substance, possession of synthetic cannabinoid, reckless driving to endanger, resisting a public officer and failure to stop for a stop sign or flashing red light.
During the early morning hours of Monday, May 31, deputies were conducting a license checkpoint on Sugar Hill Road, when a Lexus approached, abruptly stopped then sped off. Deputies saw that the driver was McKinney and knew he didn’t have a license.
Deputies pursued the Lexus to the area of Goose Creek Road and Arrowhead Trail before the vehicle turned onto Quail Hollow Road. During the chase, McKinney drove recklessly and ran a stop sign.
Once he got to Quail Hollow, the suspect fled inside a house, where deputies found him a short time later and took him into custody.
A search of the Lexus turned up Suboxone strips, pills, liquid THC and drug paraphernalia.
