INCIDENT: Major Injury Traffic Collision
 
LOCATION: State Highway 18 and Mandan Road, Town of Apple Valley
 
INVOLVED PARTY (1): 23-year-old White male adult, Apple Valley resident, pedestrian
 
INVOLVED PARTY (2): 28-year-old Hispanic female adult, driving a white 2019 Nissan Sentra
 
SUMMARY: On June 5^th, at about 2:58 am, deputies from the Apple Valley Station, emergency personnel from the Apple Valley Fire Department and American Medical Response responded to a traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian in the area of State Highway 18 and Mandan Road.
 
Through investigation, deputies determined a white Nissan Sentra was traveling west on State Highway 18 in the #2 lane. A male pedestrian was skateboarding in the westbound lanes of State Highway 18 , east of Mandan Road. The pedestrian was struck by the Nissan Sentra. Medical personnel responded to the scene; the pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with major injuries.   
 
Deputies from the Apple Valley Police Station's Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T) responded and conducted the investigation. The driver of the Nissan Sentra was evaluated and determined not to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Westbound lanes of State Highway 18, from Rancherias Road to Tao Road were closed for approximately 2 hours while deputies conducted the investigation.
 
The collision is currently under investigation by the Apple Valley Police Department, and deputies are seeking additional witnesses.
