Fireworks of Any Kind are Illegal in Sunnyvale

Fireworks of any kind, including those labeled as safe and sane, are illegal in Sunnyvale.

On average, close to 200 people per day in the US suffer fireworks-related injuries in the month leading up to the July 4th holiday. An estimated 10,000 people were treated for fireworks-related injuries in U.S. hospitals in 2020.

Fireworks injuries can have life-altering effects on consumers. Not only do fireworks cause physical injuries, they can also be terrifying for military veterans struggling with PTSD and for pets too. Fireworks are not only illegal in Sunnyvale, but they are also a nuisance to your neighbors. If you’re caught setting them off, it comes with a very hefty fine too.

The extremely dry conditions mixed with illegally setting off fireworks can have devastating consequences. A simple sparkler, which is also illegal in Sunnyvale, can set dry grass on fire and create an uncontrollable blaze in seconds. It’s just not worth it.

Please do not call 911 to report hearing the sound of fireworks. Only call 911 if you actually see a crime occurring and can give details to its exact location, or if you need police, fire, or medical emergency services.

Be safe and celebrate the 4th the smart way—no illegal fireworks please!
