Air Rescue 307 responded to an exhausted hiker at Cucamonga Peak in Mt Baldy and conducted a hoist rescue

VICTIM(S): Edwin Gonzalez, 27 years old, Van Nuys
SUMMARY: On Saturday, June 5, 2021, at approximately 3:47 p.m., Sheriff’s dispatch received a 911 call from a friend of Gonzalez. The friend stated Gonzalez told him that he was out of water, dizzy, sick to his stomach, and did not think he could hike any longer. The friend stated he believed Gonzalez was below Cucamonga Peak and provided dispatch with a possible GPS location.
Sheriff's Patrol Helicopter 40-KING-5 arrived in the area and began looking for Gonzalez. The crew located him at the 8,700-foot elevation surrounded by large trees and uneven terrain. Due to the location, the crew requested Sheriff's Helicopter Air Rescue 307 for a hoist rescue. Air Rescue 307 arrived and hoisted an air medic down approximately 100 feet to Gonzalez. The medic placed Gonzalez into a rescue harness and he was hoisted up to the helicopter followed by the medic. Gonzalez was transported to the San Antonio Dam to a waiting Fontana Deputy and an ambulance for further treatment.
