June 14 New Trash Update
Last week we launched local trash service – thank you to those that have been patient and thank you to our crews who have been working seven days a week in difficult conditions. We are adding some services to help get caught up. Here is an update:
In house pickup will continue as scheduled (schedule below). New hires start Monday, June 14. We are still accepting applications here: http://collingswood.com/services/contact_us/employment_opportunities.php
Starting June 14: In addition to curbside service schedule we will add local drop off options for recycling and yard waste. Residents and businesses can drop recycling and yard waste at the Comly Ave plant Monday to Friday from 7am-3pm rather than wait for pickup. To get to the Comly Ave plant, take Collings Ave to Comly Ave and turn toward Newton Lake (away from Rte 130). You will come to a gated area at the end of the Comly Ave. Enter the gated area and follow signage for dropoff loop. See map here .
It is critical that recycling rules be followed. NO PLASTIC BAGS of any kind should be in yard waste or recycling, either bagging the material or in the material. Materials bagged in plastic are rejected at the recycling plant.
Acceptable recycling includes: Rinsed plastic or glass bottles, jars and jugs, rinsed aluminum and steel cans, clean paper, and clean cardboard. If you are unsure if a piece is recyclable, remember this, "When in doubt, throw it out." No plastic bags of any kind should be in or around your recycling. See the County’s guide to recycling here.
No illegal dumping, trash or construction materials will be collected at this site. Only approved recycling and yard waste (dumped from cans or in paper bags only) will be accepted at drop off. Drop off is for Collingswood residents ONLY. The drop off site will be monitored.
Starting June 21: If we are not yet caught up on the backlog of commingling trash and recycling to be taken for disposal. This step is necessary to clear the streets and return to normal service. If you do not want your recycling taken with your trash, starting June 21, please take it to the local drop off or pull it back in. As we get caught up, we will be able to run separate routes for recycling and trash. Until then, while not ideal, we must merge them to get caught up.
Current schedule:
- Trash is being picked up on your normal schedule
- Wednesday (not a regular trash day in town), crews will catch up on recycling and grass/brush left from Monday and Tuesday's normal schedule
- On Thursday and Friday, crews will pick up trash, recyclables and grass/brush on the regular schedule
- On Saturday and Sunday, crews will catch up on recyclables and grass/brush remaining from Thursday and Friday schedule
