Bitcoin Fraud-Scam Alert. Recently, several local businesses fell a victim to this scam. A call is placed to a business by an individual who identifies himself as being from corporate office and telling the victim that his manager is on the other line speaking with them. They then ask for the victim to take money from the register and/or safe and to send that money to a Bitcoin QR code which they will text to the victim through the Whatsup app. Once the money is sent it can not be recovered. The scammers will claim that the money is for an outstanding order or to balance the business ledger due to upcoming visit from the corporate office.
