Advisory

Road Rage / Battery

On Monday May 31, 2021, Middleton Police were called to the Costco gas station in the 2400 block of Deming Way for a report of two people fighting.

Prior to police arrival one of the involved parties had left.  Police made contact with one of the involved persons and other witnesses who were still on scene.  During their investigation police were able to identify and interview the other person involved.

Police learned that the two involved persons (driving in separate vehicles) got into a conflict about driving behaviors somewhere near US 12 and University Ave.  They were identified as Miles Xavier, 23 of Madison and Charles Pereau, 34 of Middleton.  Words and hand gestures were exchanged, and they ended up at Costco gas station.  Both persons exited their respective vehicles and confronted each other.  One of the subjects exited their vehicle armed with a knife and pepper spray.  A physical fight took place and both subjects were exposed to pepper spray, and one subject received a non-life-threatening knife wound to the leg.

After interviewing the parties involved, speaking with witnesses, and reviewing video, the Middleton Police Department determined that both subjects would be charged for their actions in this incident.  Charges of Battery on Charles C. Pereau and Aggravated Battery While Armed on Miles Xavier have been referred to the Dane County District Attorney’s Office.

If you have any information regarding this incident please contact the Middleton Police Department at 608-824-7300, Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014 or on the web at P3TIPS.COM.  Crime Stoppers tipsters can receive up to $1,000 in cash rewards for tips that lead to an arrest and can remain anonymous.

Pursuant to the directive of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20.3.6, Trial Publicity, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
