El Cerrito Crime Blotter: June 1st - 14th, 2021

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

June 1
 
Grand Theft - 1400 block of Everett Street:
An unknown suspect stole the catalytic converter from a Toyota Prius sometime during the night of the 31st.
 
Shoplifting - 11565 San Pablo Avenue:
At 3:00 pm, an unknown suspect entered the business, stole merchandise, and when security tried to detain him.
 
Attempted Burglary - 2500 block of Arlington Blvd:
At 7:11 pm, an officer reports two unknown suspects broke a window to the victim’s residence sometime during the weekend in an attempted burglary; no entry was made into the home.
 
June 2
 
Vandalism - 800 block Shevlin Drive:
An unknown suspect shattered the window to the victim’s vehicle sometime during the night.
 
Battery – Eastshore Blvd / Potrero Ave:
At 6:09 pm, an officer accepted the Citizen’s Arrest of a 50-year-old man after the victim was reportedly assaulted by the man; the male was released with a citation.
 
Vehicle Theft, Brandishing a Weapon - 6500 block of Gladys:
At 6:49 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s vehicle and was followed by the victim in another vehicle. The suspect eventually abandoned the stolen vehicle and fled in an accomplice’s vehicle. While fleeing, the suspect turned and pointed a firearm at the victim.
 
June 3
 
Vehicle Theft - 7100 block of Mound Court:
An unknown suspect stole a 1997 Toyota Corolla sometime during the night of the 3rd.
 
Vehicle Theft - 1600 block of Arlington Boulevard-
An unknown suspect stole a Subaru Legacy sometime during the night of the 3rd.
 
Grand Theft - 1600 block of Arlington Boulevard:
An unknown suspect stole the catalytic converter from a Honda Accord sometime during the night.
 
Possession of methamphetamine and heroin - South 55th Street @ Mariposa Street:
At 4:24 pm, officers were dispatched to motorist slumped over the wheel.  Officers arrived on scene and contacted the motorist. Officers spotted methamphetamine on the dashboard and the driver had heroin in his pockets. The man was issued a ticket and released at the scene.
 
Vehicle Theft - 10636 San Pablo Avenue:
An unknown suspect stole a white Honda Accord between the hours of 3:30 pm and 5:30 pm.
 
June 4
 
Robbery / Shoplifting – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreens): 
An unidentified suspect stole approximately $500 worth of cosmetics.  The suspect swung the handbasket at the manager causing her to fear for her safety before he walked out with the items.
 
Robbery – 5805 Cutting Blvd. (Sketcher’s):
At 8:48 pm, officers were dispatched to a call of a Robbery that had just occurred.  The store employees saw a suspect taking shoes from a box and placing them down his pants.  An employee went and locked the doors so the suspect could not get out.  When the suspect got to the front doors, he pulled a hypodermic needle out of his sock and pointed it at the employee and told him to unlock the door.  The employee fearing, they would be stuck by the needle, unlocked the door and the suspect fled with the shoes. 
 
June 5
 
Warrant Arrest – 10900 San Pablo Avenue: 
A 20-year-old man turned himself in on a DUI warrant in response to a letter mailed by ECPD.  The man was issued a citation with a new court date.
 
June 6
 
Vehicle Theft – 6400 block of Portola Dr:
An unidentified suspect stole the victim’s Amigo Polo scooter between 3:00 pm on 6/5/2021 and 8:00 am on 6/6/2021.  The scooter was located a short time later in the 900 block of Lexington Ave.
 
Residential Burglary – 1300 block of Brewster Dr:
An unidentified suspect covered a motion light, stood on a trash can and attempted to open a window of the residence, causing minor damage to the window frame, at some time between 3:00 PM on 6/5/2021 and 9:30 am on 6/6/2021, but it appeared no entry was made.
 
 Vehicle Theft – 5300 block of Cypress Ave:
A 2005 GMC Yukon was stolen between 10 PM on 6/5/2021 and 9 AM on 6/6/2021 by an unidentified suspect.
 
Residential Burglary – 2700 block of Arlington Blvd:
An unidentified suspect entered the vacant residence by breaking out a window at some time between 11:00 am on 5/29/2021 and 11:30 am on 6/6/2021.  The suspect stole a television. 
 
Commercial Burglary – 7509 Fairmount Ave (Happy Cleaners):
 An unidentified suspect kicked the front door of the dry cleaner and entered the business some time overnight.    No known loss.
 
Vehicle Theft – 500 block of Kearney St:
The victim’s 1997 Subaru was stolen by an unidentified suspect between sometime overnight on 6/6/2021. 
 
Grand Theft – 10800 block of San Pablo Avenue:
At 6:48 pm an officer was sent to the report that someone had stolen the catalytic converter from the victim’s vehicle sometime in the last day. 
 
June 7
 
Grant Theft – 7007 Moeser Lane, El Cerrito Swim Center:
At 9:43 am, an office reports an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from the underside of the victim’s vehicle sometime earlier in the day.
 
Shoplifting – 670 El Cerrito Plaza CVS
At 9:41 pm, an employee flagged down an officer after witnessing a male leave the store with several pieces of unpaid merchandise.
 
Damage Plants – 1500 block of Liberty Street
At 11:09 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect damaged the victim’s flowering bush on three separate occasions: the most recent being earlier that same day.
 
June 8
 
Shoplifting - 11319 San Pablo Avenue, Chevron
At 7:14 am, a known suspect entered Chevron and stole items.
 
Burglary - 3080 El Cerrito Plaza, Quickly:
At 7:48 am, an employee showed up for work and discovered an unknown suspect had broken into the business and stole the cash register. The business was secured the night prior at 7:30 pm.
 
Sexual Battery- Stockton Avenue @ Albemarle Avenue
At 2:43 pm, the victim was walking when an unknown suspect touched the victim inappropriately and then fled in a red Prius.  Detectives later identified and contacted the suspect, a 26-year-old man who was out of the area.  He was interviewed and a referral was sent to the District Attorney’s office. 
 
Possession of a Controlled Substance- 10636 San Pablo Avenue
At 3:46 pm, an officer stopped a vehicle and spoke with the driver who was unlicensed and on probation. While speaking with the officer, the driver, a 22-year-old man admitted to having fentanyl with him. The officer searched the vehicle and located methamphetamine. The man was issued a citation and released in the field.
 
Stolen Vehicle – 600 block of Lexington Avenue
At 7:12 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s vehicle from the street sometime over the past 2 days.
 
June 9
 
Shoplifting - 11319 San Pablo Avenue, Chevron
At 7:14 am, an unknown suspect entered Chevron, picked up an energy drink and two corndogs and left without paying.
 
Shoplifting- 11565 San Pablo Avenue, Walgreens
At 12:05 pm, an unknown female entered the business, filled a shopping bag with items and left the store without paying.
 
Vehicle Tampering- 900 block of Galvin Drive
An unknown suspect attempted to steal the catalytic converter from a Yukon between the 8th at 6:00 pm and the 9th at 3:30 pm.
 
June 10
 
Attempted Grand Theft- 800 block Arlington Boulevard:
On June 7th, an unknown suspect attempted to con the victim out of thirteen thousand dollars through an internet scam.
 
Shoplifting- 2000 El Cerrito Plaza, Ross
At 4:48 pm, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 25-year-old man for stealing clothes from the business. The man was issued a citation at the scene and released.
 
Car Jacking – 1700 block of Eastshore Boulevard
At 10:02 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect approached the victim who was sitting in his parked vehicle. The suspect made mention of a firearm and demanded the victim’s property including the keys to the car. The suspect then drove off in the victim’s vehicle.
 
June 11

Battery – 8600 block of Don Carol Dr:
At 7:41 am, an officer reports two males got into a fight over parking while working at different homes. Both parties refused prosecution and the parties were told to not communicate.

Fraud – 11299 San Pablo Ave:
An officer reports a suspect cashed a fraudulent check at a business sometime during the month of May.

Shoplifting – 11565 San Pablo Ave:
At 11:33 am, an officer reports a group of suspect entered a business, loaded up bags with over-the-counter medication and fled the business without paying.

Shoplifting – 670 El Cerrito Plaza:
At 3:28 pm, an officer reports an unknown female entered the business and stole alcohol. The female then fled to an awaiting car.

Grand Theft – 7700 block of Terrace Dr:
An officer reports an unknown suspect stole the catalytic converter from the victim’s vehicle sometime over the night of May 10.

June 12

Warrant Arrest – 11200 block of San Pablo Ave:
At 8:43 am, an officer reports the arrest of a 43-year-old male. The male was a wanted person out from Alameda County. The male was transported to the county jail.

Petty Theft, Fraud – 225 El Cerrito Plaza (Trader Joe’s):
At 7:18 pm, an officer reports that the elderly victim was followed around the grocery store by two unknown suspects. The suspects stole the victim’s coin purse from her pocket and later used her credit cards at several businesses.   

June 13

Attempt Grand Theft – 3300 block of Santa Clara Ave:
At 4:32 am, an officer reports that an unknown suspect partially cut the catalytic converter from the victim’s Toyota Prius but was not able to successfully remove it.

Shoplifting – 5800 block of Cutting Blvd:
At 10:53 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered a business, put on a pair of shoes, and then left without paying. The suspect was last seen running west on Cutting Boulevard.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 900 block of Everett St:
At 6:46 pm, an officer located an unoccupied Chevy pickup truck that was reported stolen to San Rafael PD earlier in the day.

Grand Theft – 10650 San Pablo Ave (CVS):
At 8:16 pm, an officer reports that two unknown suspects broke into the alcohol display cabinet and stole $2000 worth of products.

June 14

Auto Burglary – El Cerrito Plaza:
At 6:21 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect shattered the front passenger window of a victim’s vehicle and removed a backpack containing misc. property.

Petty Theft – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross):
At 8:36 pm, an officer reports that an unknown suspect stole $107 worth of clothing from the business.
