Northfield Twp Police handled 496 calls for service this month
**** This month has seen an increase in neighbor problems –Northfield Police have been called to mediate varying issues. Many people are feeling the stress of a long lock down, a disruption to their previous pattern of school, work and activities, a lack of social interactions and the uncertainty of vaccines and the virus - -We remind everyone to be conscious of these stressors and attempt to be patient with others as our community attempts to navigate ourselves back to pre-pandemic life.
05/01/2021 *Fraud
5300 Block of Sutton – A complainant reported that after making a purchase through eBay, the complainant received an odd transaction number – but never received the item purchased. Upon filing a police report and review of some inconsistencies with the purchase transaction; the complainant received a reimbursement from eBay. The case was closed.
05/03/2021 * B & E Shed
100 Block of Jade –A victim reported that sometime between 11:00 pm on May 2 and 4:30 am May 3, an unknown subject entered her locked shed by taking apart the lock. The subject then removed bikes and additional property from the shed. No witnesses or suspects were identified at the time of the report.
05/06/2021 *Assist Lost Confused Driver
Main & N. Main – Officers received information on an erratic driver, they located and stopped the vehicle. After contact was made with the elderly male driver, it was determined he was lost and confused. Officers were able to contact his family and transported the subject to the police station to await their arrival. The subject and his car were released to his family.
05/07/2021 *Driving on Suspended License/ No Insurance
Main St & N. Main – An Officer on patrol observed a vehicle being driven without a license plate. Upon the stop of the vehicle the Officer discover the driver had a suspended driver’s license and the vehicle was neither registered nor could the driver produce proof of insurance. The driver was issued a misdemeanor appearance ticket and the vehicle was impounded.
05/07 /2021 *Larceny
Emerald Circle – The complainant stated that she had some personal items stolen from her room and identified a possible known suspect. Upon completion of the investigation, the case was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for review and authorization of charges.
05/07/2021 *Fraud -
9300 Block of Summerland –A complainant reported that he received a text message from a bank regarding a major credit card purchase. The complainant stated it was a purchase he did not make or authorize. A hold was placed on his credit card, one transaction was stopped. The case remains under investigation.
05/12/2021 *Uninsured vehicle -Impounded
Nollar Rd & Joy Rd – Officers responded to a call regarding a suspicious vehicle. Officers were able to locate the vehicle driving away from the location with faulty equipment and no license plate. When the Officer stopped the vehicle, it was determined that the driver did not have insurance on the vehicle. The driver was issued a ticket and the vehicle impounded.
05/15/2021 *Hit & Run – Railroad Crossing Signal
E. North Territorial & Nollar Rd – An Officer on patrol observed damage to the railroad crossing signal. After contacting the Great Lakes Central Railroad company and receiving additional information, the investigation revealed a suspect. The suspect was identified, located and issued a citation. The case was then forwarded to the Railroad Company.
05/17/2021 *Malicious Destruction of Property
200 Block of Six Mile Rd – The owner of the business reported that sometime between May 15 at 6 pm and May 17 at 8 am, an unknown vehicle did damage to his gate and posts. At the time of the report there were no suspects or witnesses.
05/20/2021 *Arrest -Operating while Intoxicated
U S 23 & Barker Rd – An Officer on patrol observed a vehicle exceeding the speed limit and driving over lane lines. Upon a traffic stop, the driver displayed signs of intoxication which were further supported through evaluation tasks. A search warrant was issued for the driver’s blood and the subject was transported to U of M. The driver’s vehicle was impounded and the driver lodged in Washtenaw County Jail. After receiving the lab results, the case was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.
05/23/2021 *Suspicious Situation – Text Intimidation
Margaret St – A complainant reported that he had received threatening suspicious text messages from an unknown number and subject. The messages were an attempt to extort the complainant, after documenting the incident the complainant was advised not to respond to the message and to block the number.
05/25/2021 *Illegal Dumping
Kearney & Jennings – A complainant reported finding garbage dumped on the land of another. A possible identifying piece of garbage was turned over to the Officer who in follow – up was unable to determine the garbage was dumped by the suspect. Case closed.
05/26/2021 *Arrest – Felony Warrant – Driving on a Suspended License
Main St & East Shore – An Officer on patrol observed a vehicle being driven on the roadway without a license plate. During the traffic stop the driver admitted the vehicle was not registered, it was not insured and the driver did not have a valid driver’s license. Further, the Officer discovered the driver was wanted on both a Felony and Misdemeanor warrant. The driver was arrested and his vehicle impounded.
05/27/2021 *Arrest & Release – Driving with a License Never Acquired
Six Mile & Whitmore Lake – An Officer on patrol observed a vehicle exceeding the speed limit in a careless fashion. When the Officer stopped the vehicle, it was discovered the driver had not yet obtained a full Driver’s License. The driver was issued a Misdemeanor ticket for Driving with a license never acquired and a civil infraction for speed. The driver was released and the vehicle impounded.
05/27/2021 *Assault & Battery
Turquoise Dr - Officers responded to a physical assault & battery between known subjects. Both parties were separated before Officers arrived. After investigating the incident, interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence, the case was turned over to the prosecutor’s office awaiting Assault & Battery charges.
05/27/2021 *Possible Fraud
Pontiac Trail – A complainant reported that he received a minimal toll bill for an out of state Toll Road. The Complainant stated he had not been to the state of Florida in years. The complainant believe this was a fraudulent letter. The initial investigation suggests that it may be a scam to obtain credit card information. The complainant was advised not to reply with any credit card or banking information.
05/29/2021 *Arrest – Resisting an Officer - Driving on a Revoked Driver’s license –
Six Mile Rd & U.S 23 – An Officer on patrol observed a vehicle driving on the roadway without a license plate. During the traffic stop, the Officer discovered the driver had a revoked driver’s license, the vehicle was not registered and did not have insurance. Further the subject was on probation. When Officers attempted to arrest the driver, the driver a 31 year old male became very agitated and uncooperative. After several warnings a taser was deployed and the subject was placed under arrest. The subject was issued a ticket for driving on a revoked license, and no insurance and the vehicle impounded. Narcotic paraphernalia was discovered in the vehicle. The subject was medically cleared and then lodged in the Washtenaw County Jail. The case was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.

Unfortunately, scammers use the internet to make calls from all over the world. Even if you are on the National Do Not Call Registry.
