Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that on 06/16/2021 at approximately 2347 hours his office was called to investigate a personal injury crash near the intersection of M-60 and Yankee St, in Howard Township, Cass County Michigan.  

Investigation shows that 43-year-old, Dowagiac resident, Michael Maleski was driving in the southbound lane heading north on M-60. Maleski drove off the roadway and then rolled his vehicle and came to a rest on its side south of Yankee St.  Howard Township Fire had to extricate Maleski from the vehicle and was then transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital, by SMCAS Ambulance, for his injuries.    

Seat belt was worn by Maleski.  Alcohol and drugs do appear to be a factor in this crash. This case remains under investigation.  

Assisting in this crash was Howard Township Fire Department, SMCAS Ambulance and Pokagon Tribal Police Department.
