Did you receive the Tornado Warning alerts last night? If you were sleeping, did you wake up? Our Outdoor Warning Sirens did activate, but did you know that they are not intended for indoor warning? This picture shows an outdoor warning siren, which is meant to warn you if you are outside and away from TV/radio/smartphones. North Aurora has four of them. They have audible testing monthly, on the first Tuesday of every month at 10am in the warmer weather months (except if severe weather is in the area). They also have weekly electronic testing (where the sirens do not sound) and they all passed during the last test on Monday, June 14th.
 
You should have at least two methods of receiving warnings that will wake you up. It appears that North Aurora and Kane County were lucky this time. The same storms that prompted these tornado warnings, produced a tornado with severe damage and injuries in the Naperville/Woodridge/Darien areas. This is a good opportunity to have conversations and learn how to be better prepared so look for our series of social media posts on weather alert radios and preparing an emergency kit coming soon.
