On September 27^th 2020, officers responded to an apartment on the 2400 block of Warring Street where a woman in her 20’s was attacked by a suspect at gunpoint, while alone in her apartment.
 
After an extensive investigation into the incident, detectives were able to identify the suspect as a 43-year-old Antelope man, who is currently in-custody at Santa Rita Jail.
 
During the September 27^th incident, the suspect broke into the victim’s apartment and stole multiple cell phones, computers, electronics and personal items. During the home invasion, the woman was asleep in her bed when the suspect woke her up and pointed a gun at her face.  The suspect pulled back the covers and made a motion as if he was going to jump into bed with the woman and told her to keep quiet.  When the victim tried to leave, the suspect repeatedly struck the woman in the head with an object before she could escape (causing multiple injuries— requiring 5 stitches to her face and 8 staples to the top of her head).
 
Although the suspect was gone when officers arrived, officers were able to collect evidence at the scene that would eventually be instrumental in the suspects identification.
 
On January 8^th 2021, the suspect robbed a person at gun point in Berkeley and fled in a vehicle. The victim of the robbery was able to obtain the license plate of the suspect vehicle and robbery detectives used that information to place a “wanted felony stop” for the vehicle.
 
On January 13^th, San Pablo PD contacted the suspect and arrested him for possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen vehicle and other various crimes.  As a result of the arrest, BPD Robbery Detectives were able to obtain a warrant and conduct a search of the suspect’s vehicle—where they found stolen property from various locations in Berkeley, including mail from the woman’s apartment building. Robbery detectives were able to link the suspect to multiple robberies and burglaries in the South Campus area.
 
The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail for the Berkeley PD Robbery and Burglary cases.  When the suspect’s DNA was collected and analyzed, it was found to match evidence recovered in the home invasion.
 
On June 15^th, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged the suspect with:

• 459 PC -1st with enhancements: 667.5(C)(21), 969f, 12022.5, 12022.7
• 220 (a)(1) PC with enhancements: 12022.53(b), 12022.8
• 245(a)(1) PC with enhancements: 969f, 12022.7.
