On Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 3:45 am, Jorge Diaz entered a residence located in the 1300 block of Yarmouth Terrace. Once inside, Diaz attacked an adult female while she was sleeping in her bed. Diaz straddled the victim while holding a knife to her neck and threatening to kill her if she screamed. The victim believed Diaz was going to rape her and began to scream and fight back against Diaz. During the struggle, Diaz repeatedly punched the victim in the head and bit her forearm. The victim’s 13-year-old daughter awoke to the sound of the victim screaming and helped the victim fight off Diaz causing him to flee the residence through a sliding glass door. During the struggle, the victim sustained significant wounds to her hands, arms and head. Officers arrived on scene and provided first aid before the victim was transported to a local hospital.
On Monday, June 21, 2021 at 12:00 pm Sunnyvale detectives located Diaz inside an apartment in Mountain View where he was taken into custody.
The victim was released from the hospital on Monday, June 21, 2021 and remains in stable condition.
Suspect Jorge Diaz (DOB: 8/16/1988) was booked into the Santa Clara County main jail for: burglary (PC 459), assault with a deadly weapon (PC 245), false imprisonment (PC 236), criminal threats (PC 422), and assault with the intent to commit rape (PC 220).
