Scam Alert and Fireworks
The Frankfort Police Department has been made aware scams regarding Illinois vehicle registration renewal. The first scam is when individuals receive unsolicited text messages claiming to be from the Secretary of State's Office. The text may allege there are “problems with your information”. The text contains a link “uipendingcases .org”. This is a scam. Do not click on the link or provide any personal information.
Another scam involves individuals receiving a text message from the IDOT to sign up for notifications regarding license plate renewal. There is a link to a Google form that asks for personal information to include your driver’s license number and social security number. Once again, do not click on the link or provide the requested information. The Illinois Secretary of State has reported cases of fraudulent websites offering vehicle registration renewals and then adding additional fees. One website has been identified as IllinoisCarReg .com.
Remember, never provide your personal information unless you initiate the contact. If you are not sure if something is a scam call the listed number for the business or organization. Never call back the number provided. If you are unsure if something is a scam, call the Frankfort Police Department for assistance.
Fireworks
As the 4th of July holiday approaches we would like to remind residents that the Village of Frankfort does have an Fireworks ordinance. The ordinance is in compliance with the Pyrotechnic Use Act and bans the sale, possession, and use of all consumer fireworks. This includes firecrackers, bottle rockets, and roman candles. We ask that you leave fireworks displays to the professionals so we can all have a safe 4th of July.
