El Cerrito Police Blotter: June 15th - 21st, 2021
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
June 15th
Shoplift- 10650 San Pablo Avenue, CVS
At 9:03 am, an unknown female entered CVS and stole merchandise.
Petty Theft & Criminal Threats- 6400 block of Schmidt Lane
At 12:59 pm, the suspect jumped the fence to the complex and stole several Amazon packages. During the theft, several maintenance workers confronted the man but were forced to back off when the suspect said he was going to shoot them. The suspect fled the residence in a gold Honda Accord.
Grand Theft- 11344 San Pablo Avenue-
An unknown suspect stole over $1100 worth of batteries from an electric lift which was stored in the Denny’s parking lot.
June 16th
Petty Theft- 11319 San Pablo Avenue (Chevron):
At 7:05 am, a 30-year-old male entered the gas station, selected food items and then left without paying. The man was contacted by officers a short distance away. After consulting with the business, the subject was admonished and released.
Armed Robbery – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreens):
At 2:53 pm, an unknown suspect entered the business and selected two empty shipping bins. He then filled them with electronic items from the store. When employees confronted the suspect, he removed a baton from his waistband and brandished it threateningly. Employees also saw he had a firearm. The suspect fled into an awaiting vehicle with the stolen merchandise.
Auto Burglary – 295 El Cerrito Plaza:
At 6:50 pm, an officer discovered a vehicle with a shattered passenger window. An unknown suspect stole luggage from the backseat.
Bomb Theft – 10650 San Pablo Ave (CVS):
At 8:22 pm, officers were dispatched to the business for a bomb threat. An unknown suspect called CVS and told them he was going to blow up the business. The business was evacuated, and the threat was determined to be unsubstantiated.
June 17th
Vehicle Theft- 1200 block of Liberty Street-
An unknown suspect stole a 2006 Dodge Charger sometime during the night of the 16th.
Shoplifting-2000 El Cerrito Plaza-
At 2:07 pm, an unknown female entered the business and left without paying for a bag of popcorn.
Shoplifting-670 El Cerrito Plaza-
At 8:02 am, an unknown suspect stole two bottles of alcohol.
Sexual Battery – 3400 block of Belmont Ave:
At 6:06 pm, officers responded to the report of a sexual battery. An unknown suspect inappropriately touched a woman who was getting her children into a vehicle. The suspect fled after she screamed.
Battery - BART Path/ Potrero Ave:
At 6:38 pm, an officer responded to the report of a victim being assaulted by a subject on the BART path. Without provocation, the suspect shoved the victim as he rode by on his bicycle.
June 18
Grand Theft – Navellier St and Schmidt Ln:
At 10:14 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from a victim’s vehicle.
Shoplifting – El Cerrito Plaza:
At 1:02 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered a business, concealed merchandise, and then left without paying.
Shoplifting – El Cerrito Plaza:
At 1:23 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered a business, concealed merchandise, and then left without paying.
Catalytic converter theft – 1700 block of Eastshore Blvd.
At 11:00 pm an officer found two subject under a truck sawing off the catalytic converters. When the suspects saw the officer, they ran off and began to jump over fences. A perimeter was set up around the block and both suspects were located taken into custody. Both suspects were booked at ECPD, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
June 19
Shoplifting, Trespassing, and Obstruction – El Cerrito Plaza:
At 10:58 am, an officer reports the arrest of a 33-year-old male. The male entered a business concealed merchandise, and then left without paying. During a previous arrest, the subject had been admonished not to return to the business. The male was located and detained, and during the detention he attempted to walk away from the officer. The male was detained and taken into custody. The male was subsequently booked and then released on a citation.
Shoplifting – 11382 San Pablo Avenue (Atlas Liquors):
At 6:47 pm an officer was sent to this store for the report that a suspect had come inside and helped themselves to a beer and then left. The subject was located nearby drinking the beer. He was identified as the suspect, placed under citizen’s arrest. He was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine. He was booked and transported to the County jail.
June 20
Catalytic converter theft – 500 block of Elm Street:
At 2:51 am an officer was sent to the report that someone had just stolen a catalytic converter off of a vehicle.
Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Battery upon an Officer, Warrant Arrest – Junction Avenue and Knott Ave:
At 9:02 am, officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle. Investigation revealed the vehicle was reported stolen. Officers located the driver of the vehicle, a 33-year-old woman nearby. When officers took her into custody, she punched and tried to bite the officer. As she was put into the patrol vehicle, she headbutted an officer causing injury. She was booked into county jail on possession of stolen property, resisting arrest with violence and three warrants.
Brandishing / Assault – 2000 block of Junction Avenue:
At 9:04 pm officers responded to the report of a battery. The suspect pushed the victim and then slashed his tires with a knife. Officer located the suspect who was also found to be in possession of brass knuckles. The suspect was placed under arrest, booked at ECPD, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Grand Theft – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross):
At 9:56 pm, an officer responded to the store on the report that two suspects had grabbed approximately $1000.00 worth of merchandise and ran out without paying. The suspects got into a vehicle and drove away.
June 21
Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Avenue near Knott Avenue:
At 12:23 hours an officer pulled over a vehicle and found the driver had two outstanding warrants for their arrest. The driver was arrested, booked at ECPD, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
