During proactive patrol, deputies conducted a traffic stop & arrested Joseph Taylor for various firearm violations

INCIDENT: PC 25850(c)(2)-Possession of a Loaded Stolen Firearm, HS 11370.1(a)-Possession of a Loaded Firearm while in Possession of a Controlled Substance, PC 25400(a)(1)-Carrying a Loaded Firearm in a Vehicle
 
LOCATION: Baseline Street and Del Rosa Drive Highland, Ca
 
SUSPECT: Joseph Taylor, resident of Los Angeles, CA
 
 
SUMMARY:
On Friday, June 25, 2021, Highland Sheriff's Deputies were conducting proactive patrol with the assistance of Cal Fire Law Enforcement Officers. At approximately 11:06 p.m., deputies were conducting an area check for illegal firework activity near Baseline Street and Del Rosa Drive. During the patrol, Cal Fire Law Enforcement noticed a vehicle speeding away from the area. Deputy Strand and Cal Fire Officer Kirkhart conducted a traffic enforcement stop on the vehicle. During the stop, the driver was identified as Joseph Taylor. Taylor was found to be driving on a suspended license and during an inventory search of Taylor's vehicle, a loaded Glock handgun was discovered next to the driver's seat of the vehicle. A record check of the firearm showed it was stolen from New Mexico. Additionally, approximately twenty pills of suspected ecstasy were located inside the vehicle. Taylor was arrested for possessing a stolen firearm, possessing a firearm while in possession of a controlled substance and carrying a loaded firearm inside of a vehicle. Taylor was booked into custody at Central Detention Center in San Bernardino.
