On June 29, 2021 at 2:03AM, an officer with the Middleton Police Department observed a vehicle traveling westbound on Elmwood Avenue near Cayuga Street.  The officer noticed the vehicle was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane.  The vehicle eventually made its way back into the appropriate lane of travel but did deviate from its designated lane.  After following the vehicle for a period of time, a traffic stop was initiated and the vehicle stopped. 

The driver was identified as Kyle R. Mitchell, age 33, of Sun Prairie.  The officer noted a strong odor of intoxicants coming from Mitchell’s breath and his speech was slurred.  The officer also noted that Mitchell had an open container inside his vehicle in close proximity to him that smelled of intoxicants.

Following field sobriety testing, Mitchell was arrested for 4th offense operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (OWI), a felony.. He submitted to an evidentiary chemical test of his breath, which registered 0.15.  Mitchell has a 0.02 restriction related to his previous OWI offenses.

Mitchell was booked into the Dane County Jail for the felony OWI.  He was also ticketed for Operating Left of Center and Possession of Open Intoxicants.
