SUMMARY: From July 2nd through July 4th, Sheriff's deputies will be conducting extra patrols in the city limts of Grand Terrace focusing on fireworks enforcement.  The goal is to suppress incidents of fireworks in the designated "No Fireworks Safety Zone" and the use of illegal fireworks throughout the city.  Deputies will also be contacting those who discharge fireworks on dates other than the designated and approved date of July 4th from 12:00 pm to 11:00pm (Municipal Code section 8.112.010).   Those found in violation of this code are subject to citation or arrest.
 
Althought this notice specifies targeted enforcement during the dates listed above, incidents of fireworks occur throughout the year.  Deputies are currently being proactive in locating sources of the use of fireworks and will contact those responsible.  Citations will be issued and fireworks may be confiscated if found to be illegal to possess.
 
This proactive enforcement is in an effort to maintain public safety of the citizens of Grand Terrace.  To View the "No Fireworks Safety Zone Map" and learn more about the city's Fireworks Ordinance, please visit www.grandterrace-ca.gov.
 
Penalties for the use of illegal, or "dangerous fireworks" include a fine of $2500 on the first offense, and increases to $10,000 on the third and subsequent offenses.
 
Penalties for the use of "safe and sane" fireworks on dates, times, and/or locations other than those permitted by the city's ordinance include a fine of $250 on the first offense and increases to $750 on the third and subsequent offense.
