The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

June 21st
 
Petty Theft- 1000 El Cerrito Plaza, Luckys

At 11:39 am, a 34 year-old woman was arrested by store employees for stealing several bags of merchandise. As store personnel were detaining the woman, she spat on them and tried to get away. The woman’s identity was confirmed and she was released from the scene.
 
Criminal Threats- 11545 San Pablo Avenue, Ross

At 1:49 pm, an unknown suspect became enraged at the checkout line and threatened to assault the store manager. When the manager tried to calm the suspect, the suspect leapt over the counter and tried to punch him. Fortunately, other employees came to the manager’s aid and the suspect left without further incident.
 
Shoplifting-11555 San Pablo Avenue, DD’s Discount

At 6:53 pm, officers responded to a reported shoplifting and learned the suspect had left a credit card behind. The officer contacted the 35-year-old woman by phone who admitted to the theft and returned the stolen property to the police department. The woman was issued a citation.
 
Vandalsim-11344 San Pablo Avenue, Denny’s

At 2:21 am, an officer reports two unknown suspects broke one of the windows to the business after an argument with staff.
 
June 22nd
 
Shoplifting-11565 San Pablo Avenue, Walgreens

At 8:45 am, an unknown suspect entered the business took a trash bag and filled it with $300 worth of lotion.
 
Grand Theft- 1700 block of Liberty Street-

An unknown suspect stole a catalytic converter from a Toyota Prius between the evening of the 18th to 7:00 am on the 22nd.
 
Petty Theft and Brandishing a Weapon - 11861 San Pablo Avenue, Starbucks

At 3:41 pm, an unknown male swiped a drink from the counter at Starbucks and was confronted by the victim who was standing nearby. Once the victim got his drink back, the suspect punched him in the face and threatened to stab him. The suspect exited the business, opened his backpack and removed a package which contained a large machete.  Luckily, a Starbucks employee rushed to the door and locked it so the suspect could not get back in and he fled the area.
 
Vandalsim-10422 San Pablo Avenue, Bank of America

At 5:57 pm, an officer reports a suspect kicked the ATM machines and damaged one of the machines touch screen display.
 
Grand Theft-295 El Cerrito, Coin Laundry

At 6:43 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the catalytic converter from the underside of the victim’s vehicle.
 
Shoplifting-2000 El Cerrito Plaza, Ross

At 9:18 pm, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 30-year-old male who was identified as having left the store with merchandise. The man was issued a citation and released.
 
Strong Arm Robbery - 9950 San Pablo Avenue, Chase

At 10:14 pm, an officer reports a suspect grabbed a wallet from the victim and ran off; the wallet was later located but was missing an ID and access cards.
 
June 23rd
 
Grand Theft- 6700 block of Hagen Boulevard

An unknown suspect stole a catalytic convertor from a Honda between the 22nd at 4:00 pm and the 23rd at 9:20 am.

Petty Theft- 11299 San Pablo Avenue

At 3:25 pm, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s purse which was left unattended in an unlocked vehicle.

Vehicle Theft- 1700 block of Eastshore Boulevard

An unknown suspect stole a Toyota Yaris between the 10th and then 22nd of June.

Grand Theft- 2200 block of Spyglass Lane

An unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from a Toyota Tacoma after 10:00 am on the 22nd and 3:15pm on the 23rd.

Battery-1000 El Cerrito Plaza, Luckys

At 9:35 pm, an officer reports a suspect approached the victim from behind and grabbed her around the waist.

Vandalsim-700 block of Albemarle Street

At 3:05 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect broke a window to the victim’s vehicle; no loss was reported.

June 24th

Vehicle Theft- 1700 block of Lexington Avenue

An unknown suspect stole a 2005 Infiniti G35 between the 23rd at 5:00 pm and the 24th at 10:45 am.

Check Fraud - 10394 San Pablo Avenue

California Check Cashing Center reported that a known suspect passed a counterfeit check on April 9th of this year.

Brandishing-670 El Cerrito Plaza

At 3:36 pm, an unknown male brandished a large knife at several people walking around the Plaza and chased several of them. The suspect also chased the security guard.

Attempted Grand Theft-2500 block of Tassajara Avenue

At 7:32 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect attempted to remove the catalytic converter from the underside of the victim’s vehicle sometime last night; the exhaust system was damaged but the theft was not completed.
 
DUI-11575-San Pablo Avenue, Church’s Chicken
 
At 7:34 pm, an officer arrested a 68-year-old man who was identified as the suspect in a hit and run non-injury collision. The man was determined to be DUI and was later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
 
Burglary-2500 block of Mira Vista Drive
 
At 8:20 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered an unlocked detached garage at the property and removed a bicycle sometime over the past two days.
 
Petty Theft-3400 block of Belmont Ave
 
At 12:47 am, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle and removed property.
 
June 25th

Auto Burglary – 9895 San Pablo Ave:
 
At 0822 hours, an officer responded to the report of an unknown suspect shattered the rear driver side window and removed a backpack containing a cell phone and sunglasses. The suspect then got into awaiting silver Infinity. The time of occurrence was approximately 0815 hours.
 
Identity Theft – 2300 block of Cedar St:

At 0946 hours, an officer responded to the report that an unknown suspect was able to conduct a sim card swap on the victim’s phone, gaining access to their digital currency. The victim may have lost approximately 50K in funds.

Auto Tampering - 500 block of Kearney St:
 
At 0956 hours, an officer reported an suspect attempted to enter the victim’s Nissan Altima by manipulating the driver side window. The time of occurrence was between 1830 hours on 6/24/21 to 0956 hours on 6/25/21.
 
Shoplifting -  11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreens):

At 1338 hours, an officer responded to the report that an unknown suspect entered the business, concealed approximately $300 in skin care product, and then left without paying. The suspect was described as a BMA, 30’s, wearing a black shirt, black hat, black pants, and in a wheelchair.

Auto Burglary – 10759 San Pablo Ave (Marshalls):
 
At 1558 hours, an officer responded to the report that an unknown suspect shattered the front passenger window and removed documents and cash from the glove box. The time of occurrence was between 1400 to 1600 hours on 6/25/21.
 
Vandalism – 600 block of Everett Street:

At 7:40 pm an officer went to a call where someone had broken several windows of a vacant house sometime in the previous two days.

June 26th

Driving under the Influence – Arlington Blvd. at Potrero Avenue:

At 3:04 am an officer pulled a vehicle over and after an investigation it was determined the driver was intoxicated.  The driver was arrested, booked at ECPD, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Grand Theft – 7100 block of C Street:

At 7:20 pm an officer went to a call that a catalytic converter had been stolen off of the victim’s vehicle sometime during the previous night.

June 27th

Auto Tampering – 1500 S. 56th St:
 
At 0847 hours, an officer responded to the report that two unknown suspects broke out windows to two of the victim’s vehicles, causing approximately $1500 in damage. The time of occurrence was 0455 hours to 0500 hours on 6/27/21. The suspect were captured on surveillance and described as;
 
Attempted Grand Theft – 1700 blk of Liberty Ave:

At 10:30 pm officers were dispatched for the report that the owner of a vehicle had just scared off someone who was cutting off their catalytic converter.    

June 28th

Grand Theft – 1500 block of S. 56th St:

At 0815 hours, Officer Ly reports unknown suspect removed the catalytic converter from the victim’s Ford E-350 van. The time of occurrence was between 6/25/21 to 6/28/21.

Theft from an Auto – 2000 Junction Ave:

At 1200 hours, an officer responded to the report of an unknown suspect entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle and removed a purse containing credit cards. One of the credit cards was used in the City of San Pablo at approximately 0600 hours.

Theft - 11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway):

At 1340 hours, an officer responded to the report of an unknown suspect removed the victim’s wallet from her purse while she was shopping.  

Robbery – 11565 San Pablo Avenue (Walgreen’s):

At 6:22 pm an officer was dispatched for the report of a strong-armed robbery that just occurred.  The Walgreens security officer attempted to intervene in a theft and the suspect shoved him violently to the ground and fled the scene.
