Mayor’s Message of July 2, 2021

This is West Caldwell Mayor Joe Tempesta with a public service announcement.

It has been five weeks since my last call and I am happy to report that as of today Friday, July 2, 2021, we only had eleven (11) new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in West Caldwell’s general population since then.

In our two skilled nursing facilities combined, we have no current COVID-19 cases in Crane’s Mill and Hackensack Meridian Health WC Care Center.

Since the beginning of the Pandemic, we have had a total of 734 cases, of which, we have had 14 citizens pass away in our general population. Thankfully, the remaining 720 cases are closed whereby those citizens recovered. I urge all of you that have not been vaccinated to please contact the West Caldwell Health Department to make an appointment.

We are committed to continue to provide our residents with services, programs, and events.

Our Independence Day fireworks display will be held on July 4th at the James Caldwell High School baseball field. Gates open at 7:00 pm with fireworks beginning at dusk. The raindate will be Monday, July 5th – please check westcaldwell.com for updates. Parking is available at Westville Pool.

Gazebo concerts are scheduled for the summer. The first concert will be held on July 8th. Concerts will be held each Thursday thereafter with the last concert being August 12th. Food will be available for purchase at all concerts beginning at 6:30 pm. The concerts start at 7:30 pm, weather permitting.

The Recreation Department is currently taking registrations for all fall sports.

Both town pools are now open seven days a week. The hours are Monday through Friday, 11:30 am to 8:00 pm. and Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm for paid members.

Pool registrations are currently being accepted – registration can be made either online by visiting www.westcaldwell.com or pool applications are also available at the Municipal Building.

Meetings of the Mayor and Council are now being held in person. Our next in-person meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 13th at 7:15 pm in the Public Meeting Room of the Municipal Building.

I also ask that you continue to join me in thanking all our first responders and teachers. I also thank you for continuing to patronize our restaurants and retail stores. Thank you.
