El Cerrito Police Blotter: June 29th - July 5th, 2021

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

June 29th

Petty Theft- 11025 San Pablo Avenue:

At 9:00 am, an officer responded to the report that an unknown suspect jumped the gate to the parking lot and stole a wheel from a bicycle.

Organized Retail Theft-11565 San Pablo Avenue, Walgreens:

At 11:57 am, officers responded to the report that a group 7 juveniles entered the business, ransacked property, and then fled without paying.

Grand Theft- 11545 San Pablo Avenue:

An unknown suspect stole the catalytic converter from a Ford F-550 between noon and 1:15 pm on the 29th.

Shoplifting- 3160 Carlson Boulevard, Union 76:

At 1:58 pm, an unknown suspect stole beer from the business.  The suspect fled in a stolen vehicle. 

Burglary-1800 block of Ganges Avenue

An unknown suspect entered the residence through a window and stole jewelry and laptops between 2:30 pm and 4:50 pm.

Identity Theft-300 block of Pomona Avenue

An unknown suspect was able to obtain the victim’s social security number through a scam on Facebook.

Identity Theft- 5900 block of Central Avenue

An unknown suspect found the victim’s lost wallet in the Plaza and then used a debit card to withdraw cash in Richmond.

June 30th

Grand Theft- 800 block of Shevlin Drive

At 5:15 am, several suspects stole the catalytic converter from the victim’s Prius.

Elder Abuse- 11900 San Pablo Avenue, Red Onion

At 8:52 am, officers arrested a 55-year-old man for punching the elderly owner after being asked to leave. In addition to hitting the man, the suspect also threatened him.  The suspect was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Shoplifting, Warrant Arrest- 2000 El Cerrito Plaza, Ross

At 6:13 pm, an officer accepted the Citizen’s Arrest of a 55-year-old man who was identified as the responsible party in a shoplifting. The man was also found to have a warrant for his arrest from a neighboring county. The man was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department and later released with a citation.

July 1st

Shoplifting-10598 San Pablo Avenue, Baskin Robbins

At 11:28 am, an unknown suspect entered the business stole an ice cream cake.

July 2

Elder Abuse – 7700 block of Barons Court:

At 1:10 pm, an officer responded to the report of a male shoving an elderly victim during an argument. The victim did not suffer any injuries and declined prosecution.  A crime report was written and will be presented to the District Attorney’s office for review.

Auto Burglary - 3000 block of Yolo Avenue:

At 7:48 pm, officers were dispatched to the report that two suspects had just broken into three different vehicles and stole property from within. 

July 3

Battery – El Cerrito Plaza:

At 3:15 pm, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 25-year-old female. The female got into an argument with a security guard and then spat on him. The security followed the female who then spat on him a second time. The female was positively identified and then cited.

Organized Retail Theft – 11545 San Pablo Avenue (Ross):

At 7:56 pm an officer saw people running from the store to a parked vehicle, carrying arm loads of merchandise.  As the vehicle left the parking lot the officer attempted to pull the vehicle over however it began to drive recklessly, and a pursuit was not initiated. 

Driving Under the Influence – 5920 Cutting Blvd. (Jack in the Box):

At 11:39 pm, officers were dispatched to a subject in the drive thru damaging other people’s vehicles and getting in a physical fight with at least one person.  When officers arrived, they detained the subject who was showing the signs of being intoxicated.  It was determined he had wanted to exit the drive thru line however, there were cars in front and behind him.  He then got out of his car and kicked the person’s vehicle in front of him.  The kick caused damage to the person’s vehicle.  He then got into a physical fight with a person who was in the vehicle stopped behind him.  He was placed under citizen’s arrest for the Battery and Vandalism and arrested for DUI.  He was transported to the ECPD for booking and then to the Martinez Detention Facility after booking.     

July 4

Residential Burglary – 700 block of Colusa Ave.

An unknown suspect damaged the padlock to the victim’s garage door and entered the garage.   The suspect ransacked the victims two unlocked vehicles parked inside but did not steal anything.  The burglary occurred between 4:30 pm on July 3rd to 7:30 am on July 4, 2021.

Battery – Big 5 11060 San Pablo Ave. 

At 10:09 am, the victim was sitting in her vehicle in front of the business when the suspect stopped to video record her with his cell phone.  An argument ensued and the suspect slammed the vehicle’s door on the victim’s leg and fled the scene.   

Shoplifting – DD’s Discounts 11555 San Pablo Ave.

At 11:58 am, an officer was dispatched to the report of a suspect entering the store, stealing property, and then fleeing.     
Grand Theft from Vehicle – 1300 block of Noble Ct.
An unknown suspect stole the victim’s catalytic converter from their Toyota Prius.  The theft occurred on July 3rd at 6:00pm to 11:45am on July 4th

July 5th

Battery – 9943 San Pablo Avenue (Crown Bar):

At 2:04 am, officers were dispatched to the Crown Bar on the report of a disturbance and a victim getting punched during an altercation.   After punching the victim, the suspect fled the scene.
