Crime Alert Bulletin for the Week of June 28-July 4, 2021

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Monday, 06-28-21 at approximately 11:20 a.m., multiple officers were dispatched to a residence on the 900 block of Wyandotte Avenue on a report of a residential burglary. The 97-year old reporting party/victim said she was in her bedroom on the ground floor when she said her bedroom door burst open and two male subjects (unknown race between 30-40 years old) entered her bedroom. The victim said she struck one suspect several times, but he pushed her once, and she landed on her bed. The victim told the suspects that she didn’t have any valuable items, but both suspects opened drawers to her dresser and cabinets. The victim said the suspects didn’t say anything to her and used gestures to communicate. The victim said she saw the second subject holding something “black and bulky” in his hand, but she could not recall if the object was a firearm. The victim said she remained downstairs as the suspects walked upstairs and ransacked bedrooms. The victim did not observe the suspects leave through the ground floor and believed they left through the front door. The suspects pried the front door to gain initial entry into the residence. The lost was miscellaneous jewelry.

On Monday, 06-28-21 at 12:42 p.m., Officer Digiacomo and Officer Directo were dispatched to the AT&T store on Gellert Boulevard on the report of a suspicious person who was weaving back and forth, almost falling, near the dumpster. The officers contacted a subject who told them he was homeless and was just taking a rest. Since the 27-year old subject was on probation, the officers conducted a probation search and found a small plastic baggie containing a gray powdery substance (fentanyl) and a glass bulb pipe with white and black residue in the subject’s pockets. Officer Directo issued a citation to the suspect to appear for the possession of fentanyl and drug paraphernalia.

On Wednesday, 06-30-21 at approximately 4:15 p.m., a 55-year old San Francisco resident was issued a citation for dumping after an officer saw him discard a washer and dryer on the roadway on the 4600 block of Callan Boulevard.

On Wednesday, 06-30-21 at 4:31 p.m., Officer Smith was dispatched to a report of a brandishing that occurred in the parking lot of the Home Depot store. The reporting party/victim said she was walking with two friends as they attempted to walk across the parking lot when a silver Honda CRV drove in front of them. The victim’s male friend said, “Hey man, we’re walking here”, and the vehicle circled back around and pulled up in front of him. The driver had his window down and brandished a black handgun at them and made threatening remarks to them. The victims described the driver as a black male with short black hair and a beard, and they described the passenger as a black female with light complexion and long curly black hair. The vehicle left the scene, and this investigation is continuing.

On Wednesday, 06-30-21 at 6:42 p.m., several officers were dispatched to the Home Depot store on a report of two subjects concealing merchandise in reusable bags. One subject had attempted to exit the store through the second-floor exit but walked back into the store when he saw a police officer outside the door. The other subject had gone into the restroom with his bag. Sergeant Mattos followed the subject into the bathroom and saw the subject was clearly not using the bathroom for its intended purposes and saw the subject pulling tags off merchandise. Officer Risslen searched the subject’s backpack and found merchandise belonging to the store. He also found an expandable baton, a pipe (used to ingest fentanyl) and two baggies containing methamphetamine and fentanyl. The 25-year old subject was issued a citation for possession of narcotics, narcotic paraphernalia, and for possession of a metal baton.

On Friday, 07-02-21 at 2:22 a.m., Officer N. Martin was dispatched to the intersection of Junipero Serra Boulevard and School Street on a report of a vehicle that was parked in the intersection. The reporting party stated that the driver appeared to have been drinking. Officer N. Martin approached the driver’s side of the vehicle and saw a male subject who was asleep with his head leaned over his chest. The officer instructed to place the vehicle in park, and the subject then drove into a patrol vehicle at a low speed, colliding with the front push bar of the patrol vehicle. After failing field sobriety tests, the 44-year old Daly City resident was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

On Sunday, 07-04-21 at 6:22 p.m., an officer saw a male and a female walking through the lawn on the west side of City Hall towards Edgeworth Avenue and then heard the distinct sound of fireworks exploding. The officer recognized the male subject from numerous contacts. The subject, a 32-year old Daly City resident, was on probation and admitted that he should not have lit the fireworks. The officers searched the subject and found five 16-packs of firecrackers. The officer issued a citation to the subject to appear in court.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try!  www.nextdoor.com
