A Flex Alert has been issued by the California Independent System Operator (ISO) for Friday, July 9, citing extreme temperatures across much of California and a potential capacity shortfall on the state's electric grid. Consumers are asked to conserve energy from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  Consumers can help by setting your thermostat to 78 degrees or higher, if health permits; avoiding the use of major appliances; turning off all unnecessary lights; using fans for cooling; and unplugging unused items.
