Lancaster, Calif. – Five suspects arrested for DUI and 31 arrested for various other violations, while conducting a DUI checkpoint on July 9, 2021.

The checkpoint was held at eastbound Avenue J near 8th Street East from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.

26 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license, 577 vehicles were contacted. Five arrested for other criminal charges which included driving without an ignition interlock device, possession of narcotics, and a felony DUI warrant.

Checkpoint locations are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is committed to keeping the public safe when they are traveling.

Then Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will continue to hold DUI/Driver’s License checkpoints throughout the year.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
